So, if you could come up with any crossover for a character, who would it be? Example: Mine would be the space core as a autobot! He would not be allowed to have much screen time, though. That would get old.
Aaa, I see. I haven't played Portal 2, thx^^ It's the OP's avatar, from what I understand... It's just that this is the 2nd thread the OP makes on crossovers^^ On Topic, I really dislike the idea of crossovers, I like to see my characters where they belong, and feel no need to mingle stuff together that shouldn't be mingled in the first place. So, no crossover ideas for me
It stands for Original Poster, that is, the person who created the thread (and it's first post, of course). I think crossovers are a funny idea, but perhaps on comics, or something, and when characters actually have something in common, say like the Batman/Spawn crossover a few years ago. But I don't see the point in mixing two different things just because we like them. I would never in a million years want to see a StarWars/Lord of the Rings crossover
Crossovers between sci-fi properties that aren't linked from the beginning are almost always stupid as fuck. If you want to reference something, do it in a smart way with a subtle nod to a single aspect or two, while still firmly within the bounds of the established universe. Single pictures (such as your sig) are pretty much the best way to do this, and even then the trend of "take popular thing, add other popular thing" is tiresomely overused and woefully bereft of real original thinking. Otherwise you're just that guy writing fanfiction where Goku and Sonic team up to fight Scar from the Lion King. Out of curiosity, soundwaveprimus, are all your threads going to be about "put two things I like together and what do you get?"
But would you want to see Transformers and Lord of the Rings? Mega-Sauron? Optimus Aragorn? Gim-lock? The Decepti-orcs? Star Grima??
Crossovers can go either way. But 99.99998% of them are idiotic in their absolute most core concept, and come off as extremely baaaad fanfics. I knew someone who was obcessed with making sure every fictional universe was linked and crossable in some method, and the thought of it gave me migrains. Transformers+Avengers= IDW's biggest failier before All Hail Megatron. Infestation... crossing over all IDW comics no matter how different, through reality jumping zombies= dumbest idea ever. But sometimes, if done just for kicks, and insane idea can work (Infestation was not this. Even worse is that it was supossed to be canon. Yeah, I hated Infestation, how'd you guess? ;P ), such as Marvel vs DC, which lead to the waaaay more awesome than it had any right to be Amalgam . That said, if concepts are compatable on a fundamental level, it's possible. Though, idiotic universe hopping must never ever be used (Unless that's part of the core concept, like Sliders, or if the entire idea is just a big joke for fun, like Amalgam/Marvel vs DC). Best if it's a non-canon story where the two concepts cohabitate, like most of the increasingly rare Marvel/DC crossovers. Green Lantern and Transformers aren't incompatable at all, if you do not use any existing TF continuity, and just go with the core conept of a GL ring finding it's way to Cybertron, and inducting an autobot or decepticon as the new GL of his or her sector. Likewise, if you adjust the TF's story to work in Star Wars canon, then a TF/SW crossover works well, also: Transformers trying to stay out of the Seperatist war start taking the forms of SW vehicles trying to hide under everyone's noses. Maybe infiltraiting until they find out what side they want to be on (The hasbro concept of SW characters piloting vehicles that transform into robot versions of themselves was an idiotic idea). You don't nessisarily have to use Optimus Prime and Starscream... original characters (That TF used to be so great at) would work beautifully. See, in both cases, the core concept of transformers is completely and fully compatable with both Green Lantern, and Star Wars. Alien robot beings, who's bodies allow them to adapt to alternate modes. So long as you don't use the normal TF stories as a base, with Optimus Prime stomping everywhere regurgitating tired 29 year old lines, and megatron making insane schemes with giant purple gryphons, you're good. But... don't put werewolves and sparkly vampires on Dinotopia. That's just bad fanfiction.
No. I've just had too much time lately, and posting random stuff on tfw2005 is the first thing that i think of to do.
Not really "random" if it all follows an easily noticeable trend... =P Actually, it's interesting you talk about merging the Bay films with other franchises, since there's a TON of nods and references to other franchises already. Just off the top of my head, there's already conscious connections to: -Star Trek -James Bond -X-men -Mad Max -Nightmare on Elm Street And I know there's a couple that I'm not remembering right now.
