The link doesn't seem to lead to where it should.

But on the one you've posted here, that's not too bad. But while that Hot Rod does kinda look somewhat like Hot Rod with the various identifiable design cues, by the time the design finally reaches the movie screen no doubt it would've had all Hot Roddy traces removed and be just another generibot. These concept design are so often the cool could-have-beens right before the recognisability of the character it's supposed to be has been beaten completely out of it.

However, I have some small hopes that the 'beating out' stage of TF movie design process will be dropped for TF4 and named characters will look somewhat more like their well-known previous incarnations.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing.

You can see it on his tumbler: Outa

That's a damn good design, too. Nearly spot on and one of the better ones in term of looks and recognizeability. Real shame it didn't make it in.

Whatever power or entity was responsible for the "Mechsuit" concept/idea to be ditched...

    Thank you.

This is part of my theory on why non-screen movie series toys are the best more often than not. They can skip the step of "being made to look as if it could actually happen in real life" resdesigns, so they go straight from concept to production.

I dunno, the Mech Suit looks kinda awesome...if you forget that's supposed to be Shia LaBeouf in there.

Now, if we gave that suit to Epps or Lennox, then that problem goes away because those two are awesome and deserve Cybertronian based war tech.

The Hot Rod design with the wheels on the inside of the knees looks a bit similar to Prime Cliffjumper in the legs.

Mech suits have been done over and over... why put so much effort into making a human have some of the abilities of a robot, when you can just add another actual robot to the roster?

Because following the pattern of how humans are treated in regards to screen time and characterization in comparison to the namesake aliens, giving the military guys mech suits at least gives us more screen time of named people we actually care about throwing down both awesome one liners and Decepticons and less of the romantic subplot bullshit with Shia.

The Hot Rod in OP's post looks awesome. Sucks that it didn't make it into the movie.

Wait a minute, there’s something amiss here. Looking at them carefully, firstly there’s text and secondly, looking at the way the paper folds, this is clearly from a book of some kind. What book, can I ask? That one that got cancelled? When the hell are we going to get an art book? It’s beyond absurd now.

Those seem pretty Japanese-influenced. The martial arts weapons, the head-crests, the relatively clean lines, etc. Not that that's a bad thing at all, it's just interesting to see a different aesthetic in the designs.

I, frankly, love Sam's suit, it's a great callback to Daniel's suit in TFTM, would be a potentially better way of putting Sam (or other humans) in the action, and could be used as a foil for that theme of earth technology being linked to cybertronian technology (which was woefully under-explored).

Thanks for posting these, there's definitely some interesting stuff in this, some of which would have been cool to see, some of which... doesn't really work. But that's what's great about concept art! You get to see what might have been, for better or worse.

I remember posting the Shockwave design here some time last year. But the others are new to me.

Battleship Megatron and Starscream look great. What may only have been...

That Starscream looks so much better than the eyesore they ended up using.
