That's probably true but there is the possibility that Bay's not racist, just uncreative. Every character's personality is the stereotype for their role. While Bay probably envisioned those particular ones as black, there is the possibility he did so because other movies have those sorts of characters as black.

The first movie felt like there as at least an attempt to make a movie even if it was a movie with too many side trips to nowhere. The other two movies just felt like an attempt to make money off a brand name after box office success with the first movie. A bit like the Jurassic Park sequels just cashing in instead of attempting to have another good story.

Agreed. A lot of times I wish the first movie had been left to stand on its own, and be that rare strike of lightning that just wowed people once and then went on its way. Unfortunately, since the beginning on the new millennium, that seems to be a dying practice. Now we have to make sequels to everything.

It does seem like the Hollywood motto these days is always kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Pirates of the Caribbean had a good place to stop since so many of the characters had their story arch rapped up. But no they had to go make part 4 which showed too much Captain Jack is a bad thing.

The Shrek films had good place to stop at part 2, but no they had to prove why it doesn't work once the main character has become a family ogre. Then if part 3 wasn't bad enough they do part 4 just to show it can get worse.

I kind of wish that if Hollywood was going milk franchises forever they would at least be bold enough to reinvent more often. The reason the James Bond films can work over decades is because they are bold enough to reinvent James Bond for a modern world when the Cold War stuff stopped working.

wow, us tf fans have got to be one of the most divided fanbases of any franchise.
"To stand divided we will surely fall".
come on guys, lets stand together and what not!

I think you are exceedingly generous to other fandoms. This sort of "division" is endemic, if not universal.

I would say that nearly every major fandom is as rife with division or even more factionalized than this one. DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Anime, etc. etc. etc.

Depends what side you're standing on. I'm not going to stand with you if you're standing for something I don't agree with.

True... he could just be uncreative. Most of his movies portray black characters in the same way as his other films (Not sure if Bad boys was any different - haven't watched it)

    I'm guessing that it has divided into at least three different factions;

    • Those who watch the movies and accept them for what they are
    • Those who watch the movies and wish they were better
    • Those who don't watch the movies

Being completely honest... I completely agree with you Nathimus about people constantly begging for comedy and human characters... the only things is... even if no one wanted them - its still the choice of the writers, producers, directors and all the people associated with the movie to remove those elements.

Yeah aslong as Bay is the Director you assume the movies will suck. I have given up hope.

It's a bit hard to stand together when the production team and part of the fan base acts as if the old fans are not important. Kind of sad when some people act like there is something wrong with you because you like G1. Hard to stand with people if they don't want you around.

Just harder to stand with a brand when you have the feeling that something is not as good as it could be. It's easy to stand with Beast Wars fans because for it's time it was really something. It's easy to stand with the games because of the effort to combine old and new. Just harder to stand with the movies when it feels like cashing in on a name instead of understanding what's at the heart of a franchise or how can we make it even better.

I personally don't think it's all Bay's fault, he's not the guy behind it all. It's the formula for the live action movies.

I do love the car chases and stuff blowing up. I enjoyed Armageddon, Bad Boys, The Island, and Pearl Harbor for what they are. Human stories with lots of action.

Until it's a pure cartoon movie, we'll get the same thing:

***using the guy who does trailers' voice in 2007***
TRANSFORMERS!!! Inspired by Hasbro's Transformers toyline.

    Starring:
    Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky
    Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes
    Josh Duhamel as Captain Lennox
    Jon Voight as John Keller
    John Turturro as Agent Simmons
    Tyrese Gibson as Sergeant Epps
    Rachael Taylor as Maggie Madsen
    Anthony Anderson as Glen Whitmann
    Kevin Dunn as Ron Witwicky
    Julie White as Judy Witwicky
    Mojo the Dog

    Special Guest Star:
    Bernie Mac

    With special guest apperances by:

    Frenzy voiced by Reno Wilson
Optimus Prime voiced by Peter Cullen
Ironhide & Barricade voiced by Jess Harnell
    Ratchet voiced by Robert Foxworth
    Jazz voiced by Darius McCrary
    Starscream voiced by Charles Adler
    Megatron voiced by Hugo Weaving

Now imagine another franchise/movie with a similar formula:

Batman, starring _____ as Dick Grayson/Robin, with special guest star _____ as Bruce Wayne/Batman

Harry Potter #9, starring Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Tom Felton; with special appearance by Daniel Radcliffe.
