Hey everyone, just wanted to ask, in all 3 of the Bayverse TF movies, Megatron growls now why is that? He's done it in all three especially DOTM, just wanted your guy's input.

Also on a side note is it just me or do the Decepticons in the movies remind you of animals or a mindless creature? To me for some reason they all act and look like beasts (animals) with the exception of Starscream and Soundwave (which are my favorite in the films) does anyone agree or is it just me? Anyway that's just my 2 cents how about you?

Because Michael Bay wanted Decepticons to be mindless, snarling monsters. The fact he was supposed to be directing a movie about a civil war eluded his tiny, shallow brain.

I've got two theories depending on if you want to be wildly optimistic or wildly pessimistic.

Optimistic theory, someone thought it would be fun to make a bit of a Beast Wars joke by Beast Wars Megatron being all civilized while movie Megatron was his exact opposite by being beastal in nature, yes.

Pessimistic theory Micheal Bay slept during the classes Hasbro presented to him about the Transformers so he just made up stuff as the production went along. Sort of like his saying that Optimus Prime was his so he could put flames on him if he wanted to.

If you've been on these boards since the biginning of last year, I suspect you really know. However, as I like complain about the movie Decepticons, I'll bite.

As bay and co. have no creativity or care for the Transformers as anything more than war machines, we got Decepticons who are nothing more than generic alien invaders. They act like beasts to get across that they're not just aliens but evil aliens.

Exactly, i like the Movies but not as TF movies (it's hard to explain) the plot is whatever to me as are the horrible excuses called "Decepticons" i only go to watch Robot Aliens beat the shit out if each other, i hate the fact that they are TF movies because to me (and a lot of people) they are not, they do no justice to the Franchise or the Characters, the only thing it did was revive the Franchise so i am thankful for that but hopefully one day years from now we will get the TF Movies we Deserve

And we're back to my pet peeve that never goes away.

The franchise was just fine before Bayformers. All the movies did was inject horse steroids into it. You might not have been paying attention to it at the time, but that doesn't mean it was dead.

I was about to say the same thing, lol.
Exactly. Sure, the movies introduced the franchise to a whole new generation of fans, but that doesn't necessarily mean the franchise was in desperate need of those new fans before. Adding on =/= reviving.

Megatron growls because it is to show how much more a threat the Decepticons can be.

    That's my theory.

If we get new TF reboot movies, I'm fine with it. I'll still show my respect to Bay.........

Because Megatron is savage, feral and most likely psychotic.

Plus growling is an intimidating gesture. He generally growls when hunting or bullying, asserting himself as the top predator, so to speak.

Because the Autobots are the alien good guys so they must always be portrayed as somewhat intelligent, whereas the Decepticons are the alien bad guys and must be portrayed as snarling monsters, so that the dumb audience can easily tell the good guys from the bad guys. It's a lack of imagination on the part of the people making these movies.
Revive? No. Make (probably only temporarily) bigger and more mainstream? Sure.

And all that movie money has meant major improvements in the size, quality and price of the figures too...

The movie Decepticon potrayal could be very interesting if done right.

Now hear this the problem isn't that the Decepticon are potrayed as monsters and savages but thir backstory is what's the problem.

We are supposed to belive that these monster looking, red eyed deformed beasts are the same race as the Autobots and that they lived in peace with them until Megatron started the war? And that Megatron and Optimus used to be bffs?

Yeah I'm sorry but that's hard to buy.

Now if the movie Decepticons were more like say... tartars or barbarains.

Like if there was a big Autobot empire on Cybertron ruled by a Prime like say the Roman empire and that the Decepticons were like these savage tribes that the Primes had to keep away and conquer like how the Romas view the Gauls or the Germanic tribes.

And that there was say a tribe named Destron led by Megatron who was like Attila the Hun and thet everybody feared hims and had a reputation of being well a complete monster, who took up and organised and gathered all of the other tribes into one big Decepticon empire/army and attacked the Autobots empire or some thing like that.

That would be new and fresh take on the Autobot VS Decepticon war and it would mirror our own history.

Not to mention it would totally fit the whole "Dynasty of the Primes" motive because well Prime was an emperor so it could be like a royal family of Cybertron.

But instead we got the exactly the same origin story and the war beginning story we always get and I just can't accept that the movie Decepticons were once civilised and lived in peace with the Autobots. It just doesn't work!

I agree with the above statement ^^^ it doesn't make sense that the Decepticons are savage beasts and the Autobots are intelligent but they are both the same race, it's just stupid maybe if they we're mutated or something but they never say that, also i know a lot of people got back into collecting because of the movies i guess it didnt "revive" it but it did make them more popular, do you think we would have had all the toys and TV shows if the movies weren't around?

Well, if I remember correctly we've only had three TF shows during BayFormers: Animated, Prime and Rescuebots (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that). If anything I'd say the movies have actually meant we've had less TV shows over the years since they started.

As for the toys, who knows? More shows instead of movies might've translated to more toys to accompany those shows, rather than a raft of endless samey BayFormer Bumblebee and Optimus variations. If you mean the types of toys then I could easily do without a lot of the assorted non-figure movie merchandise clogging shelves. And also for movies that should've made the toy brand bigger it's actually not gotten the last load of figures from DotM released in the US and some other countries. Okay, we have Bot Shots, Kre-O and Constructibots and so on, but those could've happened anyway without the movies as large chunks of those aren't even movie-based figures. Personally, things feel more limited since the movies came along and tried to dominate the franchise. It's the spaces between the movies where interesting things often seem to happen and then the arrival of a new movie tends to stop those things dead.

But we're getting off the thread subject. Perhaps you'd like to make a new thread about this in TF General Discussion or TF Toys Discussion to see what a wider selection of members here think (as many people avoid the movie forum here)? :)

All i know is that Transformers Prime would not have happened, therefore no toys and i could see none of the video games being made (TF 07, ROTF, WFC, DOTM, and DOTM) i mean only 2 of them were any good WFC/FOC and we would have missed out on there toys aswell

I hated the scene where Starscream was trying to kill Sam and you saw nothing but his spit everywhere and he couldn't speak without slobbering all over himself...

Plus some of the ugly little deformed Decepticons... What the hell? I'm talking about Megatron's Pet thing in DOTM!

I mean I remember when the Decepticons were intellegent bipedals who didn't produce saliva... Would that have been so hard to replicate?

It definitly gave the franchise a big push and gained millions of new and younger fans which will keep it alive even longer since half of us are allready middle aged. Once we die the younger crowd will take over. The movies did just that by pulling in more to this franchise and excuss my spelling erros im typeing with out my glasses and im half alseep lol Anyway for me it revived the spark that once was there during g1 and beast wars times. It died out but with the mania of the first movie I regained interest. As so did so many other long time fans.
For the topic at hand. I love the growl he did. So did many people I know. It was intimidating. Like some someone snarling when breathing in heavy. It was just plane bas ass to me atleaat. And I like the decepticons except soundwave in the 3rd and SS in all of them. Such a failure job they did on them.
