Why does Megatron growl?

Basically this.

Take a regular movie with just people in it and you'll see actors make facial expressions and sounds that just don't occur in normal conversations, yet add to the scene in a movie. They are MEANT to add more to a scene or character. It's not rocket science, it's a movie which is trying to convey a visual and auditory difference between the good guys and the bad guys.

Well,megatron growls because he guy needs something to blow off his steam,sadly that thing that blows off his steam tends to blow him up,or beat him up senceless,or get overloaded by a mcguffin held by the typical lead celebrity.

Have you ever not growled when you're angry? Megatron likely does the same, but it's probably more cybertronian than english due to it being a natural, guttural noise, which he's probably creating in the same way he would back on Cybertron.
Actually, enough with the bogus theories. He's pissed, and they want to make him intimidating.

He growls because Hugo Weaving only got 2 hours to do his lines, therefore Bay just stuck some "grrrrrs" in there to fill space.
