Simple question: Does anyone love the explosions in the Transformers film series?

My opinion: Shows true epicness generally. So I would gawp everytime something explodes.

I really don't mind the explosions because it's one of the things Micheal Bay does really well. Seems like he spends a lot of time setting up the explosions and it's the area where he tries the hardest to nail all the little details.

Sadly I need more than just really good explosions to make a long movie enjoyable.

Bay is a great special effects man. And that's where it ends, heh.

I am apathetic about the explosions. I never thought "OMG EXPLOSIONS! SO COOL!" but then I never thought "OMG THEY SUCK, I HATE THEM!". There's nothing wrong with them, in my opinion. In a series like Transformers, which depicts an alien war, you sort of expect there to be flashy explosions.

You talk as though action movie= Explosions, which isn't exactly true.

I honestly don't think you could make a Transformers movie without explosions, regardless of director.

Heck, ignoring that explosions are industry standards for action movies in general (Expendables, Iron Man, Avengers, The Dark Knight, Die Hard), from a visual standpoint, explosions are, well, a pretty large and standard part of the Transformers franchise specifically. Whether it's comics or animated series or movies, the franchise definitely has had it's share of explosions. G1? Plenty of explosions. Beast Era? I can think of a few. RID? I'm sure there were some sparks flying. Unicron Trilogy? Goodness gracious, yes. TFA? Several. TFP? LOTS. I think that Rescue Bots has even thrown in a few.

I mean, you have giant alien robots that transform into a variety of machines, vehicles and devices and they punch, hack, and shoot at each other in massive battles of action-ness. Explosions will come with the territory.

This. The man knows explosions. He even makes explosions that seemingly happen for no reason look good. :lol

I just wish he put some of that attention to detail and love into other aspects of his filmmaking.

I think it's more that they're complaining when an action movie only has explosions and little else going for it. ;)

How would it be humanly possible to do a movie about 30 foot robots at war WAR and not have explosions? Would they kindly talk things with deep bather? I guess folks would rather Prime and Megs sit at a round table sorting out there differences with an epic discussion about the cost of war? Love the explosions and Bay did an excellent job on all 3 films.

So it's either Bay's way or it's an automatic bore fest? I think there's room for middle ground. ;)

I don't mind the explosions. It's the lousy writing an lousy directing I'm not too fond of.

Explosions are meaningless on camera. Impressive in real life, but just another series of colors on the screen. Impact in a film comes from plot and character development, not stuff that looks cool that you took a picture of.

Explosions are great, but yea I need more than just some really cool explosions to make it an epic action movie.

Even Mythbusters has more than explosions going for it.
