It won't hurt a thing. The Live Action Movie franchise is too popular to fall by Pacific Rim.

I really hope it shows moviegoers what a decent giant robot movie can be like. Bay has got away with FAR too much with the Transformers franchise. I'm not anti Bay, I freaking love Armaggeddon and Bad Boys and TF1 is a fun movie but he really hasn't been trying with the last two, just cashing his paychecks. Pacific Rim has raised the bar and it isn't even out yet.

Del Toro is yet to make a bad movie. I doubt he'll start here.

That's true but at this point I think I'd rather take the gamble of the unknown with another production team taking over on Transformers than the likelihood of just more of the same from the current production team.

Protesting it, like I do in anticipation of the next TRANSFORMERS movie. I simply don't go see any other popular movies coming out around the time of release of TF films. Yes, "around the time" can mean a year away.

Once TF4 comes out I plan to see it multiple times. Works every time :)

    Agreed.

Also, Pacific Rim is a film solely being made to steal your money also.

You realise that Pacific Rim is simply Cloverfield meets Real Steel right? Essentially its just a giant robot punching/firing missiles at giant sea turtles.

I believe they even had the voice actor for GLaDOS's voice do some lines to use in the trailer just to appeal to the gaming community.

    Pacific Rim just seems utterly silly to me, especially when you consider that the Robots are massive so any battle will simply consist of;

Giant robot punch, giant turtle bite/claw, giant robot shoot missiles, Turtle die.

I know... but the difference is that Pacific Rim will be terrible while good films like 'The Life of Pi' and 'The Lovely Bones' are overlooked compared to recent action films and trash such as the Bay movies.

The only way it could have a direct effect on revenues for TF4 would be if people only see one movie every two years. Which is... pretty much not the case.

In a more indirect manner, Pacific Rim (if massively successful and acclaimed) could hurt the buzz for TF4 if the TF4 trailers and promotional material don't stack up by comparison. But I doubt that'll be the case, since there doesn't seem to be a big gap between Rim and DOTM.

After release, if TF4 is considered an inferior film by audience or critical standards, Rim could hurt TF4's ongoing reputation or repeat-viewing theatre and DVD revenues.

Rim, by the same token, could HELP TF4, in keeping interest in giant robots and alien combat in movies alive, which would keep people hungry for more of the same until TF4 arrives. The better Rim is, the more positive the effect on TF4, especially if Rim acts as something TF4 is able to learn from in terms of cinematic technique or marketing.

But there's no way of knowing until both films are better known.

    Yes :3

Seriously though, watch the trailer, it give away the entire plot completely. Including the end scene - with the robot in the snow. Granted them portraying CGI robots in different weather conditions will be consided unique... however the plot is simply Cloverfield (Shooting style) meets Neon Genesis Evangelion (Plot) meets Troll hunter (The ending mostly) meets G.I.Joe (Character portrayal)

It doesnt take a lot to realise that this film will suck, everyone is just thinking otherwise because it is a CGI fake robot fighting a CGI fake monster and everyone seems to believe that is enough for a film to have.

I suppose Pacific Rim won't have the stigma of being a stupid toy movie. Although no doubt there will be toy merchanise for it. So it might possibly just be a stupid movie with toys.

It could be that people might see it as a good alternative to BayFormers when it comes to giant robot battle movies. They might be BayFormered-out by now and just want the same thing but different.

But no heroic alien robots to have to give some of the hero spotlight to and the human military can take all the monster-killing glory. Pacific Rim is probably the Transformers movie Bay would've liked to be able to make.
This is the thing. If someone is into the BayFormers movies they're probably going to see Pacific Rim. There's nothing to say that people can only see one movie or the other. More likely they'll see both. Cinema outings aren't cheap these days but if someone really wants to go to a movie (or two) they'll find a way to spare the cash. It's very unlikely to be an 'either/or' situation for a lot of people.

The only way Pacific Rim might 'hurt' BayFormers is if Pacific Rim is a better movie and people start demanding more/better from a BayFormers film. Although that's no bad thing.

The amount of assuming and just plain wrongness in these two sentences is simply mind blowing...

I wish I could be like you, that I could just watch an early trailer and instantly know all these things about a movie, the amount of money I would save...

Also, dude, please, please go watch Neon Genesis Evangelion before saying such nonsense about it.

Everyone is not thinking that, In fact, everyone is thinking exactly the opposite. It is a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters, done by a good director, for a change. Ppl are thinking that a director that discribes his movie, his idea, as being "a love poem to all japanese monster movies", will actually try to make it right.

I would rather have giant robots vs. giant monsters stealing my money than some crackhead in the street.

Curious how people can tell a movie is terrible when it isn't even out yet.

I want a reboot (or someone new at the helm) to happen because regardless of the outcome, I'll be happy.

Option #1.) A good film that makes Bayformers look even more like crap? GREAT! Something new for me to enjoy. :D

Option #2.) A film that is just as mediocre or worse than Bayformers? The rage from the fanbase will be delicious. :lol

It's going to be one rich thief then, based on many comments on this site. :p
