I'm hoping both Pacific Rim and TF4 do well at the Box Office. The more money they make, the better chance a Gundam Movie or Robotech movie will make it to the big screen.
Once again, I have no problem with any of the Bay TF movies. I love the positive impact they have had on the Transformers Brand as a whole, and can't wait to see TF4. Can't wait to see Pacific Rim also. The lead actor is the same guy who plays Jax on Sons of Anarchy. If you seen the show, you know he can really act.

I'm with you. Maybe this time it will be bad in that awesome way, where it's so bad it acheives "Plan 9 from Outer Space" status...

...And yet all I got was an 'Evangelion' vibe without the creepy Japanese teenagers...
If the movies are not similar, and come out a year apart , why would you ever assume they would impact each other at all? The most 'impact' I can see is Bay going 'oh hey that one part was cool, I want to do something like that part, but with more explosions, and possibly some excessive footage of army guys skydiving'.

Worry more about how Michael Bay will hurt TF4, not some other movie being released an entire year earlier.

I think Pacific Rim caters to a bigger crowd, that being Godzilla fans and mecha, course they're not mutually exclusive, but I honestly hope the movie is amazing and causes Bay to step it up with these films. And I don't mean by making even bigger bots vrs cons the stars, but I mean better writing, better story telling. That's where its weakest.

That movie looks like the result of combining Godzilla, Avatar and Real Steel.

That being said, it will have no clearly visible impact on TF4 box office. I do really hope Bay changes the whole tone of the movies this time though.

Well I'll always prefer Transformers to things like Gundam or Pacific Rim because I prefer my giant robots be characters in their own right and not just people shaped machines piloted by humans. But I'm still looking forward to Pacific Rim.

And it says a lot that even the thought of a "good robot movie" makes this true.

Don't see how one would effect the other really. The only difference I could see it affecting is DVD/Blu-Ray sales, but DOTM was a billion dollar movie before it even came to DVD. It all comes down to marketing and worldwide distribution :2c:

That looks pretty awesome, and I for one hope it does hurt TF4. Maybe then there won't be any more TF movies for a while, at least not by Bay.

Plus, do Bay's movies have GLaDOS?

Another sci-fic entry with robots, looks promising.

Nah, I wouldn't be carried away of that hurting TF4.

I wish it would hurt TF4. Then we can get ourselves the reboot that does this franchise justice.

Or we get a reboot that's met with just as much mixed fan-reception, or *gasp* worse. 50/50 chance.

Either you have a supernatural ability to see the future...

Or you are following the trend amongst board members of hating Bay's movies.

You DON'T know that the movie will be awful. Go see the freaking movie before you rate it.

The mental link from pilot to robot is more likely to be sourced from something like Patlabor or Neon Genesis Evangelion, even the suits remind me of an environmentally hardened verion of the Eva plug suits (without the weird fetish overtones). The Godzilla comparrison is inevitable

I agree though, box office impact will be negiligable since the release dates appear far apart enough that each movie will rise of fall on its own merits.
