I agree it could be a really good thing if reinvigorates an international demand for city smashing monsters and can build interest in the mecha series that can't seem to get Hollywood's attention as potential money makers.

Could even result in some good super sized monster films from outside of the United States or Japan. If North Korea could do a monster movie then it seems like we could get something interesting out of China or South Korea.

The Jurassic Park franchise has been going downhill since the first one in terms of profit. If we look at the development of Jurassic Park 4 i honestly feel they are going too much into the sci-fi route. If the current plot still involves 'human/dinosaur hybrids' or the 'dinosaurs with guns' plots then this film is dead in the water.

As for films that will likely compete (Or could prove a problem against TF4's box office earnings)

Ninja Turtles - This film is released too early for competition with profits however the fact that the lingering hatred of Michael Bay by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could still be around - could spark more news topics stating how 'atleast this film is not as bad as if Michael Bay directed it'

How to Train Your Dragon 2 - This film will no doubt dominate the younger generation in the age range of around 6 years old. Seeing as the fanbase of Transformers is split so much i feel this could impact slightly by drawing away younger fans.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again - In terms of stopping the box office earnings the third and final hobbit film will no doubt do just that. The entire film is rumored to be an adaption of several battles in the series. If there is any film which could distract TF4 fans from seeing it, this would be it.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Once again another film to battle the box office earnings of TF4. This has the possibility to draw some of the teenage crowd away from TF4 and with most the cast of the previous films along with the other series returning - including Hugh Jackman it will no doubt interest many comic fans.

Honestly though i feel TF4's main enemy will be itself. At the moment advertising is not that much and it should be tons. Around this time when ROTF was confirmed we were getting new reports daily or posts from Bay. Heck, we even got a really early teaser poster i believe that was simply the logo and the Fallens face.

TF4 has not been advertised as much and i feel that the break between TF4 and DOTM could prove unbeneficial to the franchise - seeing as TF4 introduces an entirely new cast and (unless the trailer reveals otherwise) it will likely have barely any links to the previous films other than Bumblebee and Optimus Prime.

I'm pretty sure that that's been debunked by some of the people involved various times, but considering how many times the movie has been cancelled and etc., we're just mostly just happy that they're finally doing it.
