That's actually a pretty good analysis I think...I've never really thought about that aspect of it as much, though it was staring me in the face the whole time. Food for thought, as they say.

I really never liked Tom Hanks the dramatic actor much, at least not until Private Ryan. Philadelphia really signaled him changing over from the comedy movies I enjoyed so much (Bachelor Party, Splash, The Money Pit) to roles that really let him show his range and abilities. Granted he had tried drama before, but it hadn't really gone over - see Nothing In Common. It wasn't until Private Ryan that I really began to like Tom Hanks again (OK yeah, I did like Woody in Toy Story - who didn't?) Tom Hanks is pretty good until they pair him with Meg Ryan... and then it's RomCom Hell!

Yeah, no. Titanic has a shallow, cliche love story (it's on the level of Pocahontas - and that's not a complement), is an hour and a half too damn long, has a plot that just piddles along for two whole hours, an ending scene that lasts for an hour when it should be thirty minutes tops, has a two-dimensional villain who makes the worst cartoon villains look deep, and has two utterly and totally bland main characters that are outshined by ACTUAL PEOPLE who appeared in the film, like Molly Brown. And to top it all off, there were bits and pieces of a good movie in there - if it had focused on Molly Brown, or the captain, or even the guys on the salvage ship, it would have been a lot more interesting. To top it all off, the pretty awesome score is ruined by Celine Dion squawking a song that makes Michael Bolton look subtle and artistic.

Hell, AVATAR'S a step in the right direction for James Cameron after this glacially-paced (pardon the pun) disaster, and I fucking hate Avatar. At least Avatar had some interesting alien designs other than the giant Thundersmurfs.

TL;DR, James Cameron should stick to deep sea documentaries now, since Titanic and Avatar both show he can't make a film that has two dull characters focused on over more interesting characters, and that he can't make anything without a shitty love story now. His last good non-documentary was, of course, Terminator 2.

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of your credibility flying the fuck out the window. There was not one good point in that entire, rambling set of paragraphs, and you are officially banned from the movie boards with shame.

And, as a Titanic fanatic outside of the movie, your argument is doubly wrong.

The movie does not piddle along. It only "piddles along" if you're a twelve-year-old who doesn't know how to follow story, and it just waiting to see 2 minutes of boobs in a 3 hour movie. Which, given which movie forum I'm in, completely is a possibility.

And yes, the entire score is totally ruined by Celine Dion singing a 5-minute long love ballad over the end credits...

You know what, you...you're just banned too.

45% percent of those movies shouldn't even be on that list.

No, it seriously has pacing problems. I can appreciate a good story just fine, but I kept finding myself saying "When does the iceberg crash into the boat?" And when it did, THE DAMN MOVIE KEPT GOING FOR ANOTHER FUCKING HOUR. Not to mention how they did nothing new with the story of "rich girl meets poor boy and decides to go against her betrothement to a rich asshole."

As for the boobs, I regret to inform you that I'm asexual. So that tosses your assumption right out the window! In fact, the only scene I wanted to see was, well...

I've been married before so a woman using someone for what they want without thinking of the other person's feelings seems pretty spot on for me. Plus there is always some lucky bastard out there where you have to wonder how do cool and interesting things keep happening for that person.

While the events in the film were before my time it still was a fun romp to watch Forest Gump stumble his way into some of the biggest events of a generation.

But are you a 12 year-old? You neglected to rebut that part...

Maybe it's because I knew what I was going into, but I've never found it to have any pacing issues, certainly not to extent of the TF movies. Maybe your mind just can't register things over a 2 hour movie? I pity you if you ever have to watch Gone With the Wind.

Well, if you looked at my profile, you'd see the second part of your ad hominem attack is just as baseless and stupid as the first part.

Oh, and as for your crack about my mind - in fact, I hate the Transformers movies. If it weren't for ROTF, we might have had another year of my beloved Transformers Animated!

This pretty much sums up the entire thread, if not the entirety of the arguments surrounding Bay's trilogy.

Alright, I'll admit, I was being vicious, and for that I apologize. But when people say that movie is bad, it irks me. A lot. Because, regardless of whether or not you liked it, or whether you thought it was paced well, it is one of the greatest movies ever made. I can understand people hating on it because it's so hate-worthy, but it is literally film making at its finest.

You say the love-story is stupid, then why is it stupid? You say the pacing is bad, what part makes the pacing bad?

Seriously, I want to understand this from someone else's perspective. Let's make it a civilized conversation, and even move the conversation to our profile comments, so we don't throw this thread off topic. Are you willing?

Yeah, but as someone who has seen the Bay trilogy, and who will admit to liking at least parts of it, they really aren't well-made movies. Other than on this site, they will not stand against the test of time.

The thing is, and I've recently come to realize this: Bay is a visual director. If you were to put the movies on mute and watch them scene-by-scene, there's no doubt that they are beautifully shot. Bay's camera work, the lighting, the way shots are framed - it's all excellent. But where he went wrong was with the script.

I firmly believe that if you gave Michael Bay an A-list screenwriter, a top-notch cast and crew, and forced him to have no hand in the movie other than planning, framing, lighting, and filming the shots, you just might have a masterpiece of film making on your hands. It's his own ego I think that gets in the way.

I really enjoy Romeo and Juliet. I think it's a very cool interpretation, more so that they kept Shakespeare's dialogue.

A shitty movie out of time was Heath Ledger's A Knight's Tale. A fucking Nike Swoosh on the armor? The crowd stomping and clapping We Will Rock You? Fucking nonsense.

Oh I'm sure they will keep making Transformers movies with Micheal Bay until they have ran the live action franchise totally into the ground. Paramount isn't exactly the boldest of studios right now so I don't think anyone there will be brave enough to make any real changes until they are absolutely forced to.

Bay's TF movies are a multi-billion dollar franchise. They're not going to stop making them just because Rifftrax of all people declare them some of the "worst movies of all time."

Why. I would've voted for Dotm, but I forgot. I just voted Battleship and The Last Airbender, I haven't seen Eragon yet, I will, for reasons,

I'm not a fan of Bayformers, but there were a couple films that I hated more like Beowulf and Cat in the Hat. Only two occasions in my life where I actually walked out of the theater, lol.

Bay's Transformers movies are not masterpieces. But they are far from being among the 10 worst movies of all time. Anyone who thinks so, should go out and rent some direct to DVD, B-grade flicks. That should put things into perspective.

I prefer Jack "Frost" Dawson myself.
