Properly proper ones, or ones you won't dismiss out of hand just because they don't fit your paradigm?

Tolkien's greatest inspiration was from an earlier, Irish writer, Lord Dunsany. Who is amazing. Let me rephrase that.

    Who.
    Is.
    Amazing.

That's how amazing he is. Sadly, he gets no love, because Tolkien gets a disproportionate amount of it, nudging out others from 'the scene'.

Further, and somewhat obvious, inspiration comes in the forms of Beowulf, Nibelung, and Celtic folklore, especially for his elfkind. And there's lots of things 'lifted/borrowed' from mythologies the world over, in some cases, with only names changed and nothing else. Any casual reading of Tolkien's writings and minimal knowledge of world mythologies is sufficient for someone to see that for themselves.

Have some links though, since this discussion IS a tangent, and they provide lots of info for you:

You said ripped off others, not that he was inspired by other. They're two completely different things. There are literally no books ever written that haven't been inspired to some degree by someone else's stories or mythology.

That WORST MOVIES EVURR is just pure hyperbole fest.

I've seen many many movies worse than any of those on their voting list. Many. But I guess they're not remembered because it's not fun to rip on something unless it's popular. Revenge of the Fallen worst scene wasn't as bad as this fucking Casper the friendly ghost movie I saw last month.

You'll note I used the 'air quotes' style around most of the synonyms of 'inspiration' in my post, denoting a sarcastic rendition of said term.

Basically, I pointed out, quite clearly, he ripped things off. Even real places. He cut out excerpts of mythology whole cloth and changed names. The entire courtship between Aragorn and his elf chick is stolen right from "King of Elfland's Daughter", who Tolkien HIMSELF said in a letter he wished he could have wrote.

And so again I must reiterate: You going to accept actual facts, facts that you're not just going to dismiss outright because it doesn't fit your paradigm and you don't want to do the basic logic links to see what's going on?

Maybe it's because the Bayformers films aren't all that good to begin with, and the second is absolutely horrible?

It makes the franchise look like a joke in the world of quality entertainment.

Because cybertron was just a masterpiece.

And I have NO idea how the TF movies can be on that list.

Anyone hear of Meet the Spartans?

I agree with the above comment about the SYFY original movies. I remember one from years ago with a giant ape on an island and you could tell it was an action figure with someone moving it around with their hand! LOL!!

I'm surprised not of Zeltzer and Friedberg's "masterpieces" got on there, actually.

Then again, almost everyone's forgotten about them... AS WE ALL SHOULD HAVE.

Are they masterpieces no. But they are still decent films. They got nothing on films like the room, birdemic and troll 2.
