Good point, lol. Yeah again I don't see Bay as any visionary figure in the franchise.

Man, I'd MUCH prefer an echo chamber where everyone just says the same things over and over to a sea of nodding. That sounds like an awesome model for a Discussion Forum.

The revolutionized the industry of urinating robots as depicted on film.

I remember those times I'd race home after school to watch my beloved cartoon and every single day I'd have the same stunned reaction. "What? NO dog humping? AGAIN!?" I'm glad he could revolutionize that aspect in particular

But seriously, as far as the original question...these Geewun-loving "Bay-haters" that you may be tired of having around? Yeah, a lot of these folks are the ones who stuck around and built this community while carrying a torch for their beloved plastic robot men.

Is the hate extreme? Sometimes, of course. If you don't like the movie he made, it's not like he kicked your door down and broke all of your old toys and DVDs.

Is the hate warranted? To some extent. The guy makes dumb movies. Hell, he might in fact make the dumbest movies. I mean that objectively. One of our long time favorite brands was made into 3 of the most ridiculous big budget films in recent memory. I used to constantly imagine what it would be like to see a real car Transform into a giant mechanical warrior. Not once did this fantasy involve this mechanical warrior being illiterate with a giant gold tooth.

That said, I adore the films. They are gloriously insane. They are a total mess and every frame look like a billion dollars was tossed up on screen and straight into my skull in the most excessive and often incoherent way possible. They are not the movies I always wanted, but I saw a cranky robot fart out a parachute and I would not trade that for the world. I'm serious.

Would the movies have been better by someone else? Very likely. But Bay knows how to do the kind of crazy that tons of people go to see opening weekend. Financially, he was a fantastic choice. Artistically, maybe not so much, but I'm glad that money helped keep my toys chugging along these past few years.

    I got a better idea.

Let's walk away from the computer. Pick up your favorite Transformer toy. Mess with it for a bit. Then go watch/read your favorite piece of Transformers fiction.

Then go for a long walk and come back.........

I think this is what frustrates people about Hollywood in general. Artistic merit is at the mercy of the almighty dollar, heh.

Hey,I got a little pissed of when Rockstar got rid of the GTA III franchise and relaunched it with the GTA IV franchise but it was for the good of the franchise. That's what BAY did with Transformers.

But I think the question for people is, why couldn't the same have been done with better written movies?

Bay is great with explosions but his character development is terrible. Every director is not perfect. If ever there is a G1 movie it had better be a guy that can tell a story and create characters that stand the test of time.

Considering that the fandom is not just comprised of 'Bay lovers' then their is still hope for improvement rather than just resorting to

    FACESTEALINGMURDERPENISBOTSWITHRACISTSTEREOTYPICALUNDERTONES

    No matter who you are on the forums everyone i have seen has simply spoken of things they hate in the movies... i've never heard someone state any of the following;

    • The racism in Transformers (2007) was amazing, i loved the film due to its slander against black people portraying them as lying thieves
    • The stereotypical black characters in Transformers;ROTF (2009) where what made the movie so amazing, the twins were such amazing characters and i loved seeing Devastators balls dangling and members of the cast humping each other or stripping
    • The cold-blooded murder of Megatron and the rushed conclusion of Transformers; DOTM made the film so amazing, i laughed at all the immature jokes about how a character implied gay sex and rape in a toilet cubicle
    • The fact that all the female characters were shown as sluts made the films so much more enjoyable than what most other films are like nowadays, i loved that they had no characteristics other than pushing their breasts out and shaking their ass in front of the camera.
    • The fact Sam's parents implied that he was wanking off was such good writing and their dogs humping made for such good story telling.
    • I loved how each movie is completely forgotten with barely any refrence to the previous films - despite many people being killed or dying. The fact the continuity was ignored constantly was so beautifully done that it made me cry
    • I love how they made it so Bumblebee could not talk, it really allowed for lots of good scenes such as him playing songs and that time that he urinated on that sector seven dude... it was awesome

The Bay-verse will never be accepted by every single fan - most people note that the films are 'ok' at best... but when it is someone like you who does not seem to value others opinions at all and instead just calls everyone who disagrees with you 'geewuners' and believes that Bay's work is an 'improvement' in any way... you just just became my deepest distaste

Note; this post was meant in comedy... however i do mean the general message of this post - stop enforcing your views upon others and stating that anyone who does not agree is wrong.

    Also;

SOMEONE PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD, CLOSE IT IMMEDIATELY BEFORE IT STARTS ANY MORE TROLL WARS.

I think two major problems exist when it comes to Bay haters:

1 - The internet allows for too many inarticulate people to get involved e.g. Bay sucks with no thought provocation
2 - There are enough people who can't get past Ironhide not being red, bird legs and sharp teeth.

That being said Bay and Transformers together have created a double edged sword. He has brought TF to the peak of mainstream and allowed for alot of other opportunities e.g. WFC and FOC would almost never have happened if not for the movie exposure.

Bay has also create some jaw dropping moments in TF movies. The Autobot arrival in TF07 was jaw dropping, spine tingling and just incredible to watch. Same goes for ROTF forest fight and other sequences.

The other side of the sword is that Bay (and co, most likely) just can't write a decent story OR create a good villain.

The benchmark for scifi/action villainy is the recent Batman trilogy. Whether you enjoyed the take on Batman or not each villain was someone you could really despise.

Pretty much this. I myself don't like it because it just consists of explosions and shitty jokes all over the place, the toys are crap, and the designs are horrible.
And also it feels that the word "hater" is a pretty stupid term. (Been on the brony fandom, bloody hell how abused the term is there) Since the majority of people just simply don't like it.

    I agree.

The thing about Bay is that he never asked to direct the TF movies. He only agreed to take the helm because he couldn't say no to Spielberg. As far as Bay was concerned, though, it was just a "silly toy movie" from the 80's. If you listen to the commentaries of each TF movie (I listened to both TF1 and ROTF, but not DOTM) he was very self-conscious throughout the making of the first movie.

He probably felt like a boxer being asked to do a ballet performance.

I recently rewatched some of his old movies like The Rock and Armageddon, and the characters there weren't remotely as crazy or annoying as those in the TF movies. The editing was also much better than any of the TF movies.

IMO, Bay was just a hired gun who did what he was paid to do (make money), and happened to do it very well.

TLDR; Bay did great in the visual department, but fared horribly with plot and character dev because he couldn't get take the TF franchise seriously and tried to turn it into a comedy.

It's laughable that he thought he was too good for Transformers. I have never been able to take him seriously as a director. Talented camera/effects man, yes. But nothing more than that.

And THAT is his idea of comedy?

    My 2 cents:

I don't think Bay is great. He can do action pretty well though.

Either way, I am tired of any piece of movie news causing the same people to say the same things again and again just like it's been since the pre-production of the 2007 movie.

I get it, you don't like Bay and his style. It's the worst thing to happen to Transformers. That's okay, you can have that opinion and I probably agree with you to a large degree, but you doesn't have to have a major freak out rant every time the movies are ever tangentially mentioned.

He can do action effects pretty well. An action movie? That is questionable.

Well the people who like the movies say the same things over and over again, right? ; )
