Poor Megatron he does kind of seem like the poster bot for wasted potential in the films.

G1, yea Megatron was kind of your typical 80's cartoon villain. But then we get to Beast Wars and it's an insanely cool Megatron even if he's just named after the original. Animated has some cool new touches with "Decepticons transform and rise up".

The movies it seems like Megatron was kept on ice for too much of the movie so when they do take him out of the freezer it seemed like a mad dash to make up for lost time. Then it's back from the dead to play second fiddle to the Fallen. Get to the third movie and it's sort of like wait what's the purpose for even having Megatron in the third movie other than they didn't get around to killing him in the second movie.

Toss in that Hugo Weaving could carry V for Vendetta from behind that mask so voicing Megatron had to be a walk in the park for whatever they could have asked from him.

Past examples of how Megatron could be so much more and a talented voice actor to take the character where the films wanted to go and we still ended up with a character that doesn't stand out as a very good example Megatron.

    1. Doesn't really care,

    2. Don't care either. Hell Movie Bonecrusher is better than G1 Bonecrusher. I love the raging juggernaut he is.

    3. Yes but only if he's not defeated easily. also It doesn't need to be Brawl. You could use Strika instead.

    4. Shockwave. He needs to be a real threat and not just a cycloptic Boba Fett.

    (1) It's cool. He still popped out of someone's chest, and acted as a spy/intel gatherer, which was cool.

    (2) The design was brilliant, and the way he maneuvered himself on the highway was just excellent. I think the name is really fitting for him.

    (3) I'd love to see Bruticus. I'm surprised Bay hasn't done it. You'd think a guy with a love for military vehicles would jump at the idea of something like Bruticus? I can't see them bringing back Brawl though. There's plenty of other Decepticon tanks they could use in his place.

    (4) I'd probably remove Leo, and all of the non-subtle innuendo in the films, such as the Wheelie and Mikaela scene. Also, Starscream could've done some more Autobot fighting in the third film, and Shockwave could've done with a lot more English speaking lines.

ok how about another question for everyone?

In what way, could you improve the character of Shockwave?

The third movie only had him there as an obstacle for the Autobots really..........

My opinion: They should add some history on Shockwave and make him speak more rather than be silent. Shockwave really didn't do much, so there's plenty to add to his character.

1.) I was indifferent. The inclusion of Frenzy in the first movie was basically to make up for the fact that Soundwave wasn't in Transformers. So it was the next best thing to having Soundwave in the film.
2.) Again, indifferent. Bonecrusher served his purpose in the first film and having him be one of the Constructicons/combining into Devastator would've meant completely changing the first movie.
3.) Yeah, I'd love to see Bruticus. It could be awesome. But it could also suck. But that doesn't mean I want Brawl back alive. You can make Bruticus without Brawl. Just have another tank character.
4.) Oh, if I could only alter one? That's tough. There's a lot of characters that I'd changed just slightly, none of them I'd change too much. But overall, I'd change Optimus. Without getting into the "violent Optimus"-argument, I'd go through and just change a few of his lines and actions to make him more acceptable to the majority of the fanbase.

I felt his role in the movie was adequate. He was meant to be a red herring for Sentinel as the main villain, which he did.

My first alteration, however, would be the addition of dialogue. I liked that he didn't speak much, but I think they could've done it differently. Personally, I like the idea of Shockwave speaking, but rarely, and when he does, it's in short words or phrases. "Insects!", "Impossible!", "Enough!", "Prepare for extermination!", "Pathetic!", things like that. I think that would fit his personality. He's not about speeches, he's not about blathering on. He doesn't speak, but when he does it's only what's necessary. Adding that dialogue wouldn't have to change his role in the movie or anything. If I did want to alter his role more substantially, I would've liked to have had an Earth tank mode that he transformed into. Maybe removing the Driller too.

Any more major changes to characters could result in having to completely rework the movie, so lots of these choices aren't as simple as "I want them just to change X or Y".

I like your idea. The red herring is a classic film trick, but I think they could have pulled off the trick even better if there was more build up that made him seem even more like the main villain.

A bit of dialog would have also been a nice touch. While we didn't need loads and loads of lines it would have been cool if we could have gotten a better idea of what his personality was like. Kicking a few butts would have also built up the idea that he's a serious threat. He shouldn't need the worm to be a threat when he could be a terror all on his own.

While a little touch it might have felt better to just have the Autobots stop him instead of needing help from the humans.
