Despite how "weak" you think decepticons are, in all fairness it took some explosions to weaken them. Shockwave took hellfire from the wreckers like airsoft bb's, then when the military took him on, he not only took on bullets, he also absorbed rockets. So did sentinel for that matter. And look really closely after Optimus's rage down the street, when the military begins to charge with the autobots. Some of those decepticons optimus put a dent through actually started to get back up. Point is, just because we saw ONE con get it's leg blown to pieces then shot down by soldiers doesn't mean they're "made out of glass or paper".

Now who would make the better invasion? I say both are pretty damn close. The decepticons win my vote because they have GIANT space ships along with their flying gunships, both of which can pop people into dust and put huge holes in buildings. Just look at the devastation in Chicago for a good minute. They didnt just screw up buildings, they screwed bridges and streets to the point of beyond recognition. The chitari have little flying vehicles with weapons that can pop holes in buildings and blow a street up, but not as big as what decepticon weapons were capable of.

 

I think an assualt force of My Little Ponies could have beaten the Movie Decepticons.

 

It DID take an entire planet full of superheroes to beat the Skrulls...

 

Because movie production teams are so caught up with the good guys must win that they can't make bad guys who stand any real chance at winning. The alien invasion/alien attack movies have become so predictable that you know about when the turning point of the aliens become the weak incompetent jobber before the movie has even started.

It's really tough to find a movie now where it doesn't feel like a forgone conclusion that the good guys will win because studios are scared to death that people will not buy a movie ticket if they don't get a happy feel good ending.

Not really sure where the shift happened from the 80's style films where the good guy had to go with a above and beyond heroic stand for a miracle win to a film culture of completely stomping the bad guys is just an everyday kind of thing.

 

The Skrulls and Chitauri aren't the same aliens though. The Skrulls actually get upset with people that confuse the two of them.

Okay, maybe I did have my information a little mixed up, but even still, isn't this about the movie version of the Chitauri, not the comics Skrulls?

 

Chitari.

They are already established nobodies so seeming them getting killed in massive numbers isn't as bad as seeing popular and well known character like Megatron and Starscream getting killed and their asses handed to them.

 

Well, the Protoforms (and body-typed) could take some shots before going down.

All you had to do was shove over a Chitari and they die.

 

Same thing with the Decepticons. Only thing is that the chitari are way more intelligent....

 

I think it really paid off that their plan of attack was to open one portal for their entire army to funnel through from their home base. And then lose all intelligence, sentience, and life when their home is destroyed.

I liked the part in DotM when the Decepticons didn't do any of what the Chitauri planned.  

 

I think an important question everyone seems to have missed is, who exactly would they be fighting against? Are we talking just destroying a city? Or are the 'Cons fighting The Avengers? Or are the Chitauri fighting the Autobots? And would Loki still be in charge, or is it just a leaderless army of Chitauri?

 

Both of them sought cubes of astonishing power, but only one side reacted to defeat by planning to destroy suns and summon planets  

 

The cons because of there size and weaponry as it is way more advanced.
