When I go see a movie, bottom line for me is the quality of the writing. And Bayformers is structured awkwardly, the characters are either undeveloped or offensive and the "humor" is beyond juvenile. Plus Bay clearly did next to no research or homework. It's typical of the pathetic remakes Hollywood cannot stop making lately. People go to remakes in the hopes that they'll leave up to the hype. They never do. But audiences don't want to admit they've fallen for the hype yet again.

The only credit I'll give Bayformers is that they helped make better Transformers projects possible. The same way the Star Wars prequels made much better cartoons possible.

In the end, Michael Bay will go down in textbook history as a director of all style and no substance. Not that he'll care because he'll have his money. ; )

The Bayformers caused more fans to arrive to the TF franchise than G1 and Animated Combined. I would thank them. This thread might be locked.... Due to the amount of hate in it. Nothing was wrong about the Live Action series to me, there were flaws, but nothing that ruined everything. Case closed. For me I mean.

Maybe then he can back it up with examples, explanations, and evidence, rather than vague complaints and tautologies.

When I go see a movie, bottom line for me is being entertained. Bay pulls it off.

Sometimes entertainment value can trump a poor script. But I didn't get that from Bayformers either. ::shrugs:: Agree to disagree.

I see them as different franchises honestly. Bayformers seems like an entirely different animal from Transformers. And having more fans doesn't equal quality.

Yet pretty much sums up the franchise to a T, for both good and bad. :lol

I don't think anyone was claiming that having more fans had anything to do with quality. "More fans" means a larger fanbase, which means more attention to the franchise, which means (more than likely) greater profits for Hasbro and other parties. Same way that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought many comic book characters to the forefront of public knowledge. Will all of these new fans suddenly rush out and buy the newest Marvel comic books or 3.75" figures? Probably not. But that $1.5 billion that Avengers raked in means that there was a large demographic of people who wanted to the see the movie, and now have even the most basic knowledge of the universe. They may even be tempted to learn more about these characters, and shell out money for more movies or comics or whatever merchandise they want. The more audience members = greater exposure = beneficial to the franchise.

Do you know why the Transformers didn't have more screen time in the first Transformers film? It's because the CGI models are expensive to render and the studio wasn't sure the film would make enough money to justify the extra costs.

Michael Bay isn't "destroying" Transformers, and his films aren't an insult to Transformers fans. The success of Bay's films have brought Transformers back into the mainstream, which means more people see it as a viable franchise. The fact that in 2007 Shia LaBeouf was considered the safer box office draw over Optimus Prime should tell you that.

Now you're not forced to like Bay's movies. I generally enjoyed them, and even I admit they're all flawed in a number of ways.
Still, whatever you think of them, you can't deny the positive impact they've had on the Transformers franchise. In terms of popularity and financial success.

Fair enough, I do get that. : )

I honestly think people are just frustrated in general that arguably better projects always seem to make less money and get less attention than arguably mindless blockbusters. This issue is much bigger than just the Transformers situation.

    So....Star Trek doesn't count?

That's certainly understandable.....to a degree. Still general mass appeal has ALWAYS outdrawn well crafted storytelling for as long as storytelling's been a thing. Getting upset about it now won't change anything.

Now that's just being unrealistic. The success of Bay's movies have, in fact, contributed to the development of other aspects of the franchise.

Star Trek is touch and go. Some are great and make them money. Some suck and get them bashed.

Plus Star Trek's audience is mostly made up of a hardcore fanbase notoriously difficult to please.

In the case of the TF films, they attract the general popcorn crowd. Hardcore TF fans in the audience are a minority.

It won't change things overnight no, but it does have to be pointed out sometimes.

All we want is for every film to be as good as Wrath of Khan, is that so much to ask? Lol ;)

95% of all threads in this subforum, summed up in one post. :p

Now, do you have anything new to add, or are we just going to rehash the same things we said about the last three movies?

Had to bold that one part due to the fact that it made me laugh the most. Haha, best cartoon franchise? Not in any universe, dude. The cartoons blow, for the most part, 30 minute toy commercials at best. And while you could argue that Bay's movies suck or whatever, he's done wonders for the franchise. All I give a shit about are the figures that come out of the films. I'm excited for TF4 because we're getting new robots and a possible redesign of the older bots, it means I get to fiddle with new figures.

Bay may fuck off from making these movies after TF4, but until then, it's coke, hookers and EXPLOSIONS, baby! :bay

I enjoy them and if you don't like em don't watch them. I never understood the mindset of "Well I don't like it so they should never had made them". The pre-quel haters for SW is the same thing and it's quite silly to be honest.

The last Star Trek film was both a success and accessible to the "general popcorn crowd."
