The first and third movies were good, and while I don't have too high expectations for this film, I'm somewhat looking forward to it, for the simple fact that it's Transformers. :)

First movie was decent, but I saw that someone underestimate value of this cult. Movie about many people and some robots, ok, first time.
Second movie was something terrible. Dorky humour, primitive script, Decepticons are use only to be killed.
But third movie was something I never saw. My brain want to run away. That movie was disgusting, stupid, without ideas and it has still same plot.
After that I realize Bayformers is just GP. Maybe I want something more, because when I first heard about movie, I remember my childhood. And movies just rip that off.
I hope there will be less popular robots. What they did with Shockwave is unexcusable.

First rule for good TF movie:
    People < Transformers

Because a highly successful movie trilogy with massive box office numbers are destroying an amazing and well-written cartoon where an acceptable plan of attack in the original show for the Decepticons was to build a giant mechanical griffin.

I liked the first and third movies as mindless summer blockbuster movies. There are lots of different types of Transformers fans out there. To claim people aren't real Transformers fans due to what they like isn't just foolish, it's outright rude.

I'll admit that the brand is in a downward spiral, but that's hardly Bay's fault especially with the record-shattering numbers Dark of the Moon pulled at the box office. If anything, the downward spiral is to be blamed on Hasbro's current "Aligned Continuity" push and the changes to the toyline in terms of toy downsizing and price increases. Bay is no more than a scapegoat and an easy target for people to blame.

Ah, good, time to destroy another stupid, uninformed rant.

Wrong. Transformers is mainly about the toyline, the cartoons/media and comics existed mainly as advertisements to sell the toys. When the movies came around, THAT'S when the actual media portion of the franchise also became profitable, but the toyline was still a big factor.

Not to mention TF cartoons aren't exactly meant to be masterpieces of animation, anyway. In fact, if it wasn't for the FIRST film being such a success, Hasbro wouldn't have eventually decided to try and augment the company to include a dedicated media portion to have complete control over the cartoons, since as we saw with the excellent Animated, Cartoon Network really didn't treat that series well for the most part, while with Prime it's pretty much showcased on the Hub.

    1. "Real Transformers Fans" automatically disqualifies your entire argument because that's a term that can not be defined by you or anyone, therefore it is rendered irrelevant.

    2. eagc7 pretty much kills your entire argument, as will a bunch of other people. I myself think the first and third films are alright.

Possibly the only correct statement of your entire post.

Do some research you idiot. Bay WANTED to stop doing stuff with Transformers, that's why he didn't immediately go to TF4. Instead, he went to do his Pain and Gain film, which the success of the TF trilogy gave him enough cred with his producers to do it.

Then Hasbro/Paramount gave him a check for close to 100 million dollars or something to make a fourth film after Pain and Gain. He even said he wants this one to be the last TF film he does and intends to leave it in a way so it's set up for the next guy to handle it.

Agreed 1000% Transformers was hardly in a desperate situation. Armada/etc did extremely well so profitability wasn't an issue.

Of course, making a buzzillion dollars helps, so I don't hate Michael for what he does. Sure, I personally, think the movies suck harder than any analogy you can come up with; however, I appreciate the mainstream jump.

No Bay = No NFL players calling themselves Megatron (Which is kinda dumb.. )

If 4 bad movies bring new fans into the fold, I'm down. :thumbs2:

Heh, you really believe that he want to stop with Bayformers? You are naive. Third movie, without regards to quality, make a lot of money. I think Bay will do 5 and 6 too.

+1 for liking the movies. Are they flawed? Sure, but a lot of today's movies are in some way.

Just let me get my time machine and travel back to July 2007 and wake you up. 'Cause that's when they resembled any iteration of Transformers. ;)

As fans there is absolutely nothing at all that we can do about it. You could be nice about it or you could be mean about it but the movies aren't made for fans, the movies are made for the people that made Honey Boo Boo a celebrity or the people who can use the word "bro" three times in one sentence. It was made clear early on that while other films might be super nice to the old fans the Transformers movie franchise didn't give a damn if you were happy or not.

Paramount is too scared to do anything different at this point because Transformers is about the only big thing going for them that doesn't have Disney/Marvel attached to it. Hasbro has struggled with properties that aren't Transformers or My Little Pony. Micheal Bay doesn't really come across as an artist so he's going to ride the paycheck from the franchise until he's ridden them into the ground.

The film franchise is just something you have to ride out until the public gets so sick of the same old thing again and again that they stopped attending these movies. Dark of the Moon ticket sells were down in the US and the toy line sat bad enough for figures to be canceled so we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Although I don't know if I'd count Transformers as great cartoons. I enjoyed G1, Beast Wars, Animated and Transformers Prime, but I haven't found a Transformers series yet that can hold a candle to something like Avatar the Last Airbender or Avatar Legend of Korra.

More like four, if you count the fact Leadfoot and HA Soundwave also did not see a release in the US. And I suspect the line being a slow mover was mainly to do with a surplus of non-movie characters early on (Skids / Mudflap / Nitro Bumblebee / Jolt) where the previous lines had filled those spots with characters who were on screen.

Still, it's overstated to the extreme.

And really, wishing that Michael Bay's take on the franchise tanks to get something more in line with the classic? Something that camp would be a much harder sell. I think it is more likely you would see Transformers die down completely for a while if the kind of disaster some of you guys seem to be wishing for actually came to pass.

Oh right, forgot about Leadfoot. Still, considering the line produced over 150 different figures...
