I also hated how a bunch of foot soliders could shread Shockwave and a bunch of Decepticons to pieces.
I actually quite enjoyed the skydiving scene which was something different that was never introduced in the first two films. I agree on your second point though... Have The Wreckers, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Sideswipe, and Mirage fight the Driller while Prime takes Shockwave on his own.

What really hurt was that off the shelf weaponry could just own the Decepticons so the production team could get lazy and use the same weapons you'd find in almost any modern military movie for NEST. Imagine how cool it would have been if NEST used experimental weapons that were like the weapons in something like District 9.

I wouldn't have minded the military involvement so much if it hadn't taken away from the transformers scenes as much has it did. That and the 'Con went down way too easy to human weapons.

Trust me they made Avatar for around the same as DOTM and didnt fill it with useless crap and we still got to see tons of CGI stuff for hours on end. CGI is not that difficult, especially if its entirely CGI. The scene`s on Cybertron are probably the cheapest (Though time consuming) to make.

Seriously, how do you think they lost cybertron in the first place? If the autobots had no human military allies i'm pretty sure they would be scrap by the end of movie 2 (example: Ironhide, although had big guns, could barely hold off bonecrusher's clone and a few drones while telling sam to head for the pillars. I'm also pretty sure without military help, devastator would screw all of them(skids and mudflap fought him but it appears devs was completely intact. Also in DOTM, one soldier fired a missle that sent Sentinel packing when Bee and Swipe could barely even touch him, including Optimus couldn't even touch him until he was weak!) It actually adds to realism IMO, contrary to what everyone else thinks. Sure there are some balance issues here and there but all 3 movies show that the military cant handle their own against cons without the bots, and vise versa for the bots.
By God a time traveler, and thread from 2008!

We get it. War on Earth, humans will be there. We already got the fucking lectures about kinetics, fuel air explosives, missiles and all the other bang bang stuff various armies hold in their arsenal to ruin the enemy's shit.

It was good fun in Independence Day, a rollicking good time in Battle: Los Angeles and if you're into the Navy, it was probably awesome in Battleship (whatever other merits it may lack) but in Transformers, for the most part it came across as obnoxious.

In my mind, the battles against the Decepticons should have been like fighting the Reapers in Mass Effect. That way when a victory is pulled off, it actually feels like one instead of a forgone conclusion.

Yeppers.

As to this thread: if you think anything about any of the TF's Bay movies made sense, then you are senseless.

Don't leave out the part about how military involvement doesn't mean that the military has to dominate the bad guys.

In Captain America you have the military involved because Cap isn't going to take down all of Nazi Germany by himself. But when it comes to the important part of who can stop Hydra and the Red Skull then Cap is the man to save the day.

The military in the Transformers movies should be like the cops in Spiderman 2. They show up to prove they aren't just sitting back doing nothing while Doc Ock is robbing banks and tearing up the city, but it feels like only Spiderman can stop Doc Ock.

I guess we should be glad Toho studios has never let Micheal Bay near a Godzilla movie or we'd have some guy with a grenade launcher kill Godzilla.
