Yeah. I'm not familiar with any of his villains. I remember Ed Harris from The Rock, but only because of the actor, not for the villain he played. The villain in Armageddon is a meteor, so. . . yay for meteor. Pearl Harbor we have the japanese. Never saw that one though, so I don't know if he treated the japanese fighter pilots as anything more than nameless enemy soldiers in generic planes.

I've always been a big fan of villains. They're at least as important as the hero in a story.

I still think you're sort of overblowing the problem, Soundwave has a personality of his own [he's the omnious and sadistic right-hand man who enforces his leader's order no matter what], Starscream has a personality of his own [The arrogant and cowardly air commander who fakes an yes-man image to his boss], Laserbeak had one [The Serial Killer/Psychotic Soldier], Megatron himself was a vicious warlord and who then became a scheming mastermind in DOTM.

Even The Fallen, for the more badly-retreated he was, actually had a personality [a hatred-filled entity who seeks to destroy us all].

You could even make a case for Shockwave, of all people [the loyal, stoic, silent force of destruction]

Now, the lower Drones had no personality, no argument in that.

Well, that's what I get for multi-forum tasking.

Blah, do remember DOTM is Michael Bay's apology for ROTF. And just like with Star Trek Voyager, when they want something gone down, they make it good despite the objections and contradictions of previous ESTABLISHED continuity.

These are just cardboard caricatures. Anyone could have filled those roles. The problem is that we never see anything beyond their roles !!! And yes Mako Crab, they have more in common with zombies and they do with actual sentient beings.

THAT'S IT !!!! OPTIMUS PRIME CAN ONLY KILL SO MANY IS BECAUSE THE DECEPTICONS ARE BASICALLY ROBOT ZOMBIES !!!!

Silly, why do you think there's no deleted scenes in the DOTM Blue-Ray ?

That's a simplification, I summed up their personalities in a few terms, but I can do that to any character I want, they are characters on their own, rightfully.

After all, A Cardboard caricature can't have character development like Megatron had.

Why do the cons look demonic, since all cybertronians look the same, the only difference is the colour of their optics.

Also the autobots speak english and the cons (except Megs, Scream and Soundwave mainly) speak cybertronian.

Simply put, it's an age-old tactic that's meant to easily distinguish between what audiences/people perceive to be "the good guys" and "the bad guys". Giant war-mongering death-machines that transformed into robots with glowing red eyes, more monstrous/spiky designs that mostly roar and shout in gibberish Cybertronian are the "bad guys". Meanwhile the slick, pretty sports cars or giant trucks that transform into more humanoid robots that speak clear English are the "good guys". That technique worked well enough with the first film, but as you can see, there are numerous exceptions to this method.

You'll notice that the optic-colour thing isn't as cut-and-dry as you say. Frenzy had blue eyes, Roadbuster has an orange visor, Devastator had green eyes, Demolishor had yellow eyes, Rampage had yellow eyes and all of the original Primes had red eyes. Cases such as Wheelie and Jetfire are different though. They were both Decepticons who joined with the Autobots, yet retained their red eyes. Or the alternate modes, we do get Decepticons that aren't all giant war-mongering death machines. Construction vehicles, Barricade, Sideways, Soundwave, Ravage, Laserbeak, Frenzy. Or how even the Decepticons get the occasional splash of colour in their characters (Shockwave, the numerous Constructicons/Devastator), despite their typically muted overall colour palette.

I just can't accept the mythology that the Autobots and Decepticons were at war for millions of years. The way the Decepticons have their metal butts handed to them three movies in a row you have to wonder just how lazy were the Autobots that they couldn't wrap the whole war up in just a few days.

Read all the Movieverse Comics. That'll sort out your problems.

I now see the point of this topic. Any villain could be used in place of the Decepticons, but there had to be a villain.

Well, the Decepticons are the villains that fit this theme, just like Voldemort and the Death Eaters from Harry Potter, or the Titans from Greek Mythology Movies, the WWII Japanese from Pearl Harbor...

But without a villain, there is no plot. So really, what would you rather have here, masked human terrorists, or giant robot Decepticons? Assuming both have the same level of character and distinguishability. I know what I'd pick.
