What design did you like better for Optimus? His TF1/TF2 look or TF3

I think his design was better in TF3

It's his look in the first two films. The DOTM upgrade, though necessary, didn't really fit well with me, it looked like some sort of added ribcage.

I like the DOTM design. I liked the new design on his forearm. I'm not sure what it is called, but that looks good.

TF3, though the difference is insignificant.

First two, I don't need no abs on my Optimus Prime.

The differences may be small and inconsequential, but I much prefer his DotM look. Still iconically Optimus Prime, but with a more BA look to it. He still has that inherent grill-ab design, but it's less "slap a truck grill on his stomach" and more "pieces that form and give the illusion of grill-abs". His entire chest area is different. Obviously the abs, but the red portions of the truck's hood are differently shaped and they seem to have moved his chest windows; they're much more angled, like a muscular chest. And of course his two pronged elbows. I know it's silly, but I absolutely love his elbow design. :D

With these proposed design changes, I hope that TF4 offers up minor upgrades to the designs similar to what DotM did. Not a completely new aesthetic, but just something to show that they're visually changing and growing.

It was basically a more organic take on the "Grill abs" that is a design cue present on vast majority of Optimuses. Optimuses? Optimi? Whatever.

The first one I suppose. The abs just stuck out too much to me as a change just to try and make him look more superheroish with muscles. Whenever I see Abtimus Prime all I see are abs abs abs and it distracts me.

Yes, he needs a better design, although he still has one of the best designs of the movie.

Sort of like TFP Optimus' hips. :lol  Someone had this animated gif of Optimus walking into the base and Raf looks down, seemingly at Optimus' hips. And they added these sparkly graphics saying "LOOK HERE LOOK HERE AND HERE NOT HERE LOOK HERE!", while pointing to his hips. Because they obviously don't lie.

And as for the "superheroish"-thing, that was basically Bay's intent. When they announced that they'd be updating Bumblebee and Optimus' designs, he stated that he wanted to make them look "more mature and more heroic". Changing Optimus truck grill mid-section to a more "mechanical abs" was just one of the design cues done to achieve it. I mean, it's basically a slightly less subtle ab-look than his regular grill mid-section would already imply. Because really, in all of the Optimus designs, what is his grill mid-section supposed to inherently be? ABS.

A protruding, lined section on his abdomen. ABS. Whether it's G1, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Bayformers, Animated, TFP or Rescue Bots, the designers want the viewer to subconsciously think of abs when you see his grill mid-section, be it a vehicle grill slapped on his stomach or angled metal pieces. DotM Optimus abs are merely more ab-like and less truck-like. A design decision.

TF3. It was both abs and a G1 reference. Plus the way he moves his arms fits well with the elbow prongs.

Between Transformers/RotF and DotM, Optimus' design has some slight changes. Most evident in the overall configuration of his mid-section/chest and his elbow prongs are a completely new shape.

It was a tough choice but I'm gonna have to go with TF1/TF2. The TF3 version doesn't look bad though.

I perfer my Optimus as well as the rest of the "transformers" to look like "robots" and not having stupidhero "robo-abs"

In all i very much liked TF1 design, its robotic.
What i would also like is if they werent all so elaborate with all the moving parts & pieces. I like the designs of TFP. They almost look realistic.

Less elaborate designs? Why? They know their stuff, they can do it right, and they have been for the past 3 movies.

Simplifying the designs=less awesome than before. And who wants that?

Oh, just the geewunners, bay-haters, and probably most of the site before 07 came around.
