Not every member of a race of builders, artists, and civil servants needs to be a kill-hungry smug badass. The tragedy in Wheeljack/Que's character is not how he died or that he died, but that we never got to know him beforehand.

What is so wrong with him being a scientist/inventor? Not every Autobot needs to be this bad-ass gun toting sword slashing character! Wheeljack was fine the way he was, he just needed more screen time and development.

What I don't get is that people call him a coward. He didn't get frightened when the Autobots hid from Shockwave and developed a battle plan, he was helping out Epps and Sam by giving them weapons, and obviously was with the other fighters, like Sideswipe, since he was captured with them. Besides when he was "begging" for his life, he was pointing how wrong the Decepticons were. They had them captured and the Autobots probably wouldn't have fought back.

Hmmmm mirage should have been blue, sideswipe and ironhide should have been red, megatron should have been a handgun ...before tfp wheeljack had never been a fighter. Bay actually git him right, although the design of his face is quite off-putting.

If I had to pick, fighter definitely.

The following is based on my perspective.

Fighters are bots like Bumblebee, with his boxing fighting style. More hand to hand.

A warrior, IMO, would be a bot like Brawl. A bot with lots of weaponry and strength.

I would prefer he be neither, but if I had to pick, definitely fighter.

2.) You are free to think that Bay made him a coward and not a fighter. In some ways you are correct. He wasn't really a fighter. But he wasn't a coward either (see seekerblackout, Aernaroth, zark, kaiserlisk's responses).
3.) A lot of people wanted him to have a cool fight scene. But he didn't. It's time to move on.
4.) And if there's one thing that irks me more than the "true fan"-argument, it's this:

Different strokes for different folks.

Now riddle me this, which group of the above-mentioned people is "right"? What makes one group wanting one thing any more or less important than another group wanting a completely different thing? What makes what YOUR Wheeljack wants any more valid than MY Wheeljack wants? I'll tell you. NOTHING. Your wants are not more or less valued than my wants. They don't mean squat in the end. The filmmakers made decisions and they went with them. Some people liked them, some people didn't. But that's life.

Wheeljack was a scientist, an inventor. He wasn't the hardened warrior the others were. There is nothing wrong with fearing death, espeically when at that point, his friends and the whole planet may well have followed him soon after.

He didn't just plead for his own life; he pleaded for the lives of his friends and the innocent race the Decepticons sought to enslave.

Why does every Autobot need to be able to kill everything in every way possible? That sounds more like a Decepticon's requirements.

Autobots should also include individuals who don't like/know how to fight, and can be helpful in the background (see: Que).
