The toy bios ARE canon, but only for the toyverse.  

EVERYTHING Transformers-related released with official approval by Hasbro and/or Takara is canon... for something. The question is just, "which canon?"

For the movieverse, you got the movies-only canon, the IDW comic canon (which gets retconned whenever a new movie comes out) and the toy bio canon (which also keeps contradicting itself every once in a while).

For example, in the toyverse, it was originally Hardtop who caused Bumblebee's muteness, and Scorponok was an ambitious Decepticon (!) who led the search for the Allspark. Eventually the toy bios reflected the IDW comic movieverse where Megatron damaged Bumblebee's voice in Tyger Pax.

The toy bios post-movie also established that several characters changed their colors at least temporarily, Starscream led a stealth war, Ironhide temporarily retired, Optimus Prime took the battle to the Decepticons on Mars etc. In addition, several characters have toys with Earth-based alternate modes and are established to interact with movie characters on Earth, whereas some of those characters either died before gaining full sentience or without ever making it to Earth, lest alone acquiring an Earth alt mode, in the IDW comics.

Simply put, the toy bios are set in their own micro-continuity.

 

ie: The "Bullshit Hasbro makes up to sell toys" universe.

Barricade: He never died but he went missing in roft for some unknown reason

The constructicons: The constructicons never formed deverstator from what I know devastator was just combining construction vehcles and the constructicons were fighting in the village.




Megatron: If you didnt see little part of cube and revived

Any other cons: Models of decpeticons were used to fill in decepticon armies but they were never the same charector because most of the time they had a diffent colour scheme
