I wish that was what'd happened, it'd underline how ruthless the Decepticons are.

But he had stopped being useful. They used him to get to Sam so they could make sure the Autobots had left. The only other useful thing he did after that was bring the Pillar back online, and I doubt that's why they kept him around.

By the way, I do love your avatar, Aernaroth.

True enough, but what was Dylan going to do for them? He didn't seem like leader material, using Carly as a shield in the Chicago attack. And I don't see any Decepticon putting up with him for long when they've got thousands other slaves.

Besides, Earth was theirs and they thought the Autobots were gone. It didn't matter whether you could be useful to them or not, they could kill you just for the fun of it and no one would/could do a thing. That's their mentality in these films.

Dylan was meant to be the human face of their regime. He was going to help legitimize their rule and slavery in the eyes of humanity, because they knew it would be a lot more difficult to keep people in line if they were directly ruled by alien robots. That power and prestige is the carrot they held over his head until he was in way too deep to get out without getting killed (and he realized this).

That cannon has some seriously bad heat up time. I liked using it in the DOTM game and would've liked to see Soundwave put up a better fight. You don't get to be Third in Command of the decepticons for being beaten by a scout, do you?

I'm not sure it would have been difficult: remember what the Egyptians did to the Hebrews in slavery? And they could get rid of Dylan and find another Decepticon liaison easily, just like that.

Interesting fact: There is no archeological evidence that Hebrew people were ever kept as a significant population of slaves in Ancient Egypt, especially not during the construction of the pyramids (except for Heroditus, whose testimony is unreliable at best). But even setting that aside, I'm not sure I follow the analogy you're trying to make.

Dylan had use as a liason because the Decepticons were familiar with him and his behavior, and because they were confident he wouldn't go against their interests, out of a mixture of fear and greed. If he stepped out of line enough they didn't feel he was worth it, you can bet they'd have killed and replaced him, but at that time, he was an asset they had invested years into and who had presumably been groomed for the role in that time, and thus held some value and utility.

I guess we look at it in different ways: your opinion is that they were keeping Dylan alive and safe for the moment, but in my opinion the Decepticons would have been portrayed as more evil by killing off Dylan even though he'd been their most loyal-through-cowardice human servant.

No big deal. Either way would have been fine.

Well, they were already shown killing humans who had outlived their usefulness or who were a risk to the plan being leaked, do they really need to be shown as even more evil? I suppose they could have, but I feel that killing Dylan out of the blue like that once their plan was really only half-finished (as humanity hadn't been enslaved by that point) would have made me wonder "well why did they bother to keep him alive up until then? And why did they leave Carly alive instead of just killing her once they figured the Autobots were dead?"

It's a minor detail though, you're right.

Exactly. Almost any overused G1 Movie line is cringeworthy nowadays.

Say what you will about the movies, but it feels like Prime is far worse in that regard.
