The cliche (and tragic) thing to do is for the good guy to betray everyone and then eventually see the error of his ways. Mayhaps try to redeem himself. Perhaps see that he was selfishly destroying a planet inhabited by sentient beings and it was too high a price to pay to correct the sins of the transformers for destroying their own world.

Cliche, yeah, but might have been more satisfying.
Wat would have been satifyngfor me ws to have Megaron team up with Optimus and they murder the hell out of Sentinel and I like Sentinel. His death wasn't painful....just saying.

Instead, you kinda forget about his character cause he's only in 2 scenes before his betrayal, and so much other stuff is going on, so he's not really focused on too much when I reckon he should have been.
Agreed. I loved everything about Sentinel as a character: his design, his voice, his arc, but if I had to choose one thing to improve upon (improve upon something that was already pretty good, mind you), it would be to have had another scene or two of Sentinel and Optimus; developing their relationship. Maybe even a short scene with him and the other Autobots. Really get to feel that Sentinel was essentially royalty, someone that Optimus Prime himself looked up to and admired. Speaking as if budget and runtime weren't a hinderance, I always get chills when I think about the extended NEST sequence scenes in the novel where the Autobots and Optimus kneel before Sentinel and he tells them to rise. Plus, I always love the scene where Optimus is speaking with the president at the airfield and he gets the urgent call from Ratchet about Sentinel. Those two scenes could've done wonders for Sentinel/Sentinel-related scenes.

Does this sound like something Sentinel Prime would say?

I didn't watch the whole thing, but is that based on Orwell's Animal Farm? The few moments I watched sounded familiar.

But yes, maybe not every word, but I can easily picture Sentinel Prime standing in all of his majestic Cybertronian glory in front of the Cybertronian Senate, declaring his plans and being all epic and awesome and s**t.

It woud've been cliche, but it wouldn't have been satisfying.

What would have caused that change? Where or when could it happen? It would seem arbitrary for him to just suddenly turn good. He stuck to his guns till the end. He never once showed regret or sorrow aside from the fact that he was defeated. I thought it was great they didn't do that, because I completely expected it to.

Sentinel staying bad all the way to the end was one of the few genuine surprises of the movies for me.

Exactly. It was a nice change of pace to ignore the cliche.

I loved his character. The only thing I would have liked to see different would be if they fleshed out a scene with Sentinel trying to pursuade the autobots to join his cause for the better good. Like trying to get Ironhide to join him and then have Ironhide show nobility and try to fight off Sentinel because he disagree with Sentinels methods and then have Sentinel kill him. I think that would be better and less cowardly than Sentinel shooting Ironhide in the back.

Yeah the fact that Sentinel pretty much decides from the start that he's gonna kill all the other Autobots (except possibly Optimus, and even then that might have just been to get all the other Autobots to follow him off world), without asking or caring about their opinions kind of puts into doubt exactly how much of his plan is for the good of their species and how much is just a power play for himself.

The missed opportinity is the fact that Optimus killed Megatron.

The reason I like the novel version so much that it complete's Sentinels story arc a lot better.

He brought peace to Cybertron and united it in it's time of war and tribal hatered, plus he united Optimus and Megatron aas his students under his watch and tutorship.

Seeing his two most thrused students waging war agains one another destroying his life's work must've been a devestating experience that fucked him up to the way he was in DOTM.

In fact we should've seen Sentinel more beating the fuck out of Megatron and blaming him for Cybertron's death.

Then when Megatron and Optimus finally join their strenght to figh Sentinel is feels like a full circle has been done.

In the begging Sentinel united Cybertron and joined Optimus and Megatron and now in deah he once again united Megatron and Optimus as he becomes a common enemy making way for peace and maybe the rebuilding of Cybertron.

It's a good idea to have Sentinel be "evil," or at least more vicious then Optimus. I don't hate him at all. Certainly not for killing Ironhide, even if I do dislike the way he went down (it was not fitting to kill Ironhide with Cosmic Rust). Oh well, I guess they chose the Rust because it was an unexpected way for Ironhide to die....
