Well, the novelty can not be repeated for obvious reasons, but I think the ILM team was actually trying to impressus, and themselves the first time around. Frenzy under the seat, Prime on the freeway. Blackout in the streets. Ironhide, Jazz in the streets. I think the camera was trying to show the transformations more, where as Sideswipes first (and only) transformation in ROTF was cool, but way too quick. The twins just fell appart in the beginning, only to never actually transform on camera. Megatron in ROTF was like a whole second (well in TF1 he didn't take mych longer either). Ironhide's transformation at the start of ROTF was too close, and confusing - even Prime's 360 transformation in TF1 was more clear.

I don't have much complaint about DOTM in this regard. I loved Sentinel's gettaway transformations, and Prime's solemn one after Ironhide's death, as well as Bumblebee's "we're back" transformation from the rear angle.

You have a point Tyler, guess I just want them to continue with the good transformations, rather than saying: "well everyone's used to them now, no sense in prolonging them on screen", and just do away with a bunch of cheats (meaning - off screen, few blurry frames and parts just obviously disappearing) - I know all three films have those.

Microbots that invade Simmons' hairy crack
TWICE the leg humping

jk.

I would like to see the combaticons though.

Well how about Warpath as a russian T-34 who then scans whatever the most modern russian tank is? And have him speak in russian or with a russian accent. That would be cool.

They were generally slower (which is better). The alley scene is arguably the best transformation scene in the whole trilogy.

The alley scene well works because it's the first film, meant to introduce all of these characters that we haven't met before then (save for Bumblebee). Having a similar 1.5 minute, epic set-up of transformations with the blaring music and having 5+ characters all stand there as the camera swirls around them in RotF and DotM would've been taxing. The transformations were only slower during that alley scene. After that, even within the first movie, they speed up because it's sort of like "Okay, we've seen them transform, let's get the ball rolling".

Think of it in terms of Iron Man. We get a few really cool "suit-up" sequences in the Iron Man movies, but we don't need to dwell on that aspect every. single. time. he needs to put the suit on. Or Batman. See him suit up once or twice, no need to show him putting on the under suit, gloves, boots, cape, and cowl dozens of times. Or even Hulk in The Avengers. His first transformation is long and focused on, we see lots of details. His next transformation is quite quick. Yes, you could argue that it's because Banner wasn't fighting that last transformation, thus allowing it to occur quicker/easier, but the same can be said with the Transformers. Transforming in the movies is essentially a muscle-reflex; something that has to factor in time, mood and environment, hence why transformations like Optimus in the alley (time to spare), Optimus on the highway (fast battle, keep it moving), Optimus with Mearing (angry) and Optimus returning to a destroyed NEST (solemn) are so different.

When all three movies have upwards of 50 transformations on screen, you really only need to have the long, epic transformations for like, 15-20 of them. You know, to give the audiences that "wow" factor of 'this is what transforming is'. I won't deny that there are plenty of transformations that are hidden from us, or ones that should've been longer. But then you have to have transformations that are slightly in the background (not the focus of the shot). Then there are ones way in the background, transformations that are obscured by objects (a common tactic with any VFX-heavy movie) and ones that occur off-screen. It's all about variety and balance. Having all 50 transformations be 15 seconds long and focused on for every character would make the movies even more lengthy and boring than they already are (at times).

If you were to count the number of transformations throughout the trilogy (which I have, yes, I'm a dork with no life and too much time), you'd find that there's virtually no difference between the number of overall transformations or the number of nice, steady, lengthy, epic transformations between movies.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for seeing more lengthy, steady transformations with little-to-no obstructions in TF4. But in my opinion, they've been increasing (if only slightly) as the films progress.

More powerful Decepticons. The Autobots and humans trampled all over them in the trilogy. The only Decepticon that really felt like a threat at all was TF1 Megatron.

It'd be like sitting through an episode of the Cybertron cartoon where almost every transformation and attack move has its own long sequence. It would balls up the flow of the movies, especially in the middle of battles.
Autobloke in everything but name.

Essentially.

Optimus: "Autobots, transform!" *Optimus transforms*
Hot Shot: "Hot Shot, transform!" *transforms*
Scattorshot: "Scattorshot, transform!" *transforms*
...
*I leave to take a massive dump*
...
*I return from said massive dump*
...
Jetfire: "Jetfire, transform!" *transforms*
Optimus: "All right, Megatron! There's no way you're getting the Omega Lock!" *Autobots stand there waiting for Prime to finish his speech, instead of just, I don't know, attacking*
Megatron: "Oh yeah, Prime? Decepticons, transform!" *transforms*
Thundercracker: "Thundacracka'! Trainsfoorm!" *transforms*
...

As I said, don't get me wrong, of course I want to see those epic intro transformations. But there's a time and place for those types of transformations. There's a time and place for a quick transformation. If Optimus had transformed in the forest battle like he did in the alley scene, Megatron would've impaled him before his chest windows popped into place.

>every robot character getting a lot of screen time other than Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. I want all the transformers to be developed characters, not background props who get one action scene lasting a few seconds.
>good human characters
>less stupidass jokes
>better pacing
>final fights not lasting a few seconds like Optimus vs The Fallen/DOTM Megatron
>no revivals
>an interesting story with good new characters. DOTM was a step in the right direction; especially with Sentinel Prime.
