if the next movies is a reboot do you think it would go well because lets face it most of the medias dumbasses and would think its a # four and plus every little kid goes to see a tf movie and expects bumblebee and him to be a yellow camro. I just thought about it what do you think?

Bayformers took off because it had robots fighting in it. Of course it would do well.

I think anyone that is teenage or older would be happy about it.

It's been 5 years since the first one, so a lot of the fans of the first one are probably old enough to accept a reboot.

I think they should wait at least two years, about how long it should take to make, then it would go over fine.

The public will eat up anything Transformers related, no matter how brain-dead. The reboot has the potential to win critics' hearts as well as that of the audience, and it had better.

I said 'reboot', mind you. A reboot would be one not helmed by Bay.

Well i'am a huge Fan of the movies and the franchise in general (Besides Animated hate that show!) Anyways the general public all thought the movies were at least good with a couple haters. But for the most part the general public enjoyed the movies so i think alot of people will enjoy another TF movie anyways, besides the critics who are probably already planning on bashing the movie

I agree with this. Most people aren't going to get all up in arms over them starting over. They would just need to deliver something good.

Must be more critics than I know of out there because I've heard plenty of people rip on Transformers really bad.

Given how little there has been in the way of story and character I don't think another creative team would have much trouble rebooting the whole thing. We've seen Batman rebooted successfully and several old TV shows rebooted so I don't think the public is against reboots as hard as some people might think.

Honestly Transformers just seems to be far bigger than anyone connected to the films so they can go on for as long as someone can find a way to make it entertaining.

Well, as much as I am...shall we say, "dispassionate"...about the live action films, I don't think we can really say they're not entertaining. Regardless of how shallow we may find them, a large number of people plunked down their money to see them in the theater and made them pretty damn profitable (also a sad statement on how easily entertained the movie-going public is these days). So on some level they're entertaining to the masses.

What we're looking for is someone who can both appeal to the masses, yet also satisfy the core base of fans that the movies are ostensibly being made for. That will take a reboot. And also a willingness to re-allocate the CGI budget so that each TF isn't made up of 10,000,000 individual moving parts that all have to be independently rendered. Give us good workable designs (doesn't have to be G1, but that's a good start :D ), and give us a story that makes the giant robots the protagonists - not the whiny teenager, not the gung-ho grunts, and not the smarmy government representatives.

I mean, is it too much to ask for giant robits in the giant robit movies??

If it's a reboot that doesn't have Michael Bay involved in any sort of way, then yes, it'd be accepted well.

Well, giant robots seem to equal mad bank, so it'd probably be a hit at the box-office.

Critically speaking though? It'd probably be "recepted" well if it was well-made. Many well-made films seems to be met with positive reactions. Strange, isn't it?

    This.

I agree it's a myth that the reason critics didn't like the films was because it was about robots from another planet or because the Transformers was a toy brand before it became a movie brand.

Critics loved Avengers and the Dark Knight so it's not just period dramas that critics look for. Good movies get good reviews even if it's about some guy who dresses up like a bat fighting crime while some guy in clown makeup tries to blow up the city.

Agreed. It's not about the subject matter in general. It's how that subject matter is told. That's why I always chuckle when I read the "critics hate it because it's about toys"-argument. Giant talking robots from a toyline vs. a crazy guy dressing up like a bat to fight crime in a fictional city? Two 'unique' concepts that aren't better or worse than the other. Take both of those silly concepts and make a well-made, well-told film out of them? CRITICAL SUCCESS. Take both of those silly concepts and make a poorly-made, s**ty film out of them? CRITICAL FAILURE.

    My guess:

    - Fan reaction immediately after finding out there's going to be a reboot - "OMG, no more Michael Bay, this is going to be super awesome, can't wait for the next TF movie!"

    - Fan reaction a few months later, shortly after finding out the designs still aren't going to be identical to G1 and/or [insert usual fandom complaint here] - "RARRRRGH, this will be the worst TF movie ever, I hate it and will never see it and the franchise will be RUINED FOREVER fuck HasBLOW and [director]!"

    - General public reaction - "As long as the reboot is as entertaining, and as much of a spectacle as the first three, whatever."

    - Critical reaction - "Well, guess we have to remove that 'directed by Michael Bay = automatic one star out of five deduction' before we rate this one...and we won't be able to spend entire reviews just griping about Bay any more. Other than that, we'll reserve judgment until we see how it turns out."
