It seems a bit goofy to argue that Battleship is committing some manner of sin by using visual cues and/or sound effects from Transformers - particularly given how heavily the original cartoon leaned on the sound effects library from Star Wars. Almost every sound from the original trilogy found its way into the cartoon at some point - lightsabers, the TIE fighter fly-bys, the Falcon fly-pass, blaster sounds.

Movies and television will always take visual & auditory cues from what has come before. To that point, even Star Wars borrowed from prior stories to tell its own, and the score was intentionally written to be 'comfortably familiar' by evoking pre-existing classical music. There is very little original under the sun - and most creative types (writers, visual effects crew, sound effects people, composers) are inevitably affected and influenced by what they see.

 

Those Two Guys wrote those movies are worse than Bay, Shamaylan, Bowle, Lucas and Irate Gamer fused together.

 

I'm probably biased but Battleship sucked ass.

Why are we even still arguing this. The OP hasn't been on for close to a month, and I think we're all in agreement that noise reuse is something that's A-OK in movies.

 

The G1 cartoon, and Gijoe series all ripped sound effects from StarWars,i could go on, but sound re-useage has been prevalent for years

 

If people think re-using sounds are bad now they should go rewatch some of the old cartoons where the generic rock and roll song was used in almost everything Marvel touched back then.

 

I heard those balladiers from the late middle ages ripped off melodies all the time those guys were hacks and probably helped with Battleship.

 

The Battleship movie effects the effects of the Transformers movie, which affects other movies.

They are risking their windfall by tarnishing the rep they got with the three Bay films. I am guessing that Battleship did some damage to the Transformers movie franchise since it was passed off by Hasbro and the gang as a "sister movie" to Transformers. When (or "Since") the general movie public lumps them together as being pretty much the same thing, the result could be a substantially reduced box office for Transformers 4.
