And it would be a beat-for-beat match for "The Iron Giant" or some random 1960s book.

I'll pass. It will be a cold day in hell before I watch anything directed by James Cameron, and that includes any Transformers movies he directs.

I'd watch it in a heartbeat, but we'd need strong writers to slap his hands away from the type writer. He's good, but better with peer review and either Arnold, Sigourney or the late Stan Winston to tell him when he's got a shit idea.

I wouldn't like it, most of Cameron's films have a distinct anti-technology feel to them

(Alien = Go into space, get eaten, Terminator = Robots kill everyone, Titanic = Get on a boat, you drown, Avatar = Have advanced tech, you're evil)

I can see him doing it kind of badly

The only thing that keeps me from wanting a Cameron-directed TF movie is that it would most assuredly look good but he's not exactly known for having characters that have personality anymore (he hasn't has well-written characters with any kind of depth since True Lies). Titanic and Avatar, anyone?

For all the gripes against Bay, the TFs have some personality in the flicks (whether you like what he infused them with is a whole different conversation) and Bay has a far more energetic style than Cameron. Cameron has gotten lazy in his shot selection, a lot of his shots and setups are the same ones he pulled 30 years ago in his first movie.

I would like it, but he should avoid putting a robot/human love story in it. ... Oh who am I kidding, he would do that with Arcee, Starscream or Bumblebee.

Right now I'd love Dreamworks to give Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams a blank cheque.

There was a time when I did... but after Avatar I say "NO!"

That's a large part of it right there.

Not in the slightest. Hes among the last directors I would want near Transformers. I dont care for.Bays thinking on Transformers, but Id rather see another Bay film than Cameron, who I swear is the most overrated director. Both Avatar and Titantic are good, but vastly overrated. The only thing I think Cameron does better than Bay is editing.

That's kind of taking things out of context. Outside of Terminator, the similarities in theme for the other movies I think are coincidental.

In regards to the topic, I think cameron can make a better Transformers movie than Bay. Maybe not as high octane, but as, you know, something "more".

Even entertaining the notion that Cameron would even go near Transformers is laughable.

It's not about the hope of having him do it; it's an opinion / speculation of how well he would do.

And that said- I'd prefer Zemekis... even tho he seems to want to stick with mo-capped animated films. So see? I know that won't happen either, but I think he's do it well.

Only if it's pre-1997 Cameron and not 2009 Avatar Cameron.

I love Termiantor, Terminator 2, True Lies and Aliens.

I could see the robot war being treated seriousness while still being a bombastic popcorn flick. Plus maybe we'll get some likeable humans this time.

Eh, I think it's more of a case of Transformers being too good for him; yes, I'm still sore over Avatar.
