No... DotM was mostly about Sam finding his place in the world, not being upset about not being with the Autobots.
And this is what we call "character development". I see this happening: Optimus: I'm sad to say that during his last recon, Bumblebee didn't make it back. (Autobots talk amongst themselves). Optimus: Not to worry, as ever since Bumblebee became full badass and stop being the kid of the kid of the team he got a fan club Sideswipe: What kind of fan club? Optimus: Let's just say that one fan in particular went to extreme lengths to be like his idol. Autobots let me introduce you to Cliffjumper. He even tore his voice box out for authenticity.
I dunno - seems more to me like changing the situation the characters find themselves in rather than changing the characters themselves. Now Sam works in a burger bar. He's still irritating and full of self-entitlement. Now he's massively rich. He's still irritating and full of himself. He's always irritating and full of something. I think apart from becoming more of a dickhead as the movies went on Sam didn't really develop at all. He always feels hard done by about something and it's just that 'something' that keeps changing rather than him. I feel all his development happened in the first BayFormers and they're just doing it over again each movie. 'I want this. I want that. I'm sulking because I didn't get it. I'm a selfish dick. I'm ignoring the feelings of others. And now I'm a hero, usually because I just ran from point A to point B'. Seen it from Sam three times now. Don't really want to see it again.
They could write out Sam and keep Bumblebee - just say Sam died in an accident involving a) choking and b) some dude's mule.
Movie Studio: You know now that Sam is gone, the deep, not superficial and played out, relationship they had over the first three movies will hurt Bumblebee as a character. So let's totally scrap him for this fourth movie. Hasbro: Despite the fact that Bumblebee is a one man franchise and sells more toys than most transformers combined, yes, we agree, let's go ahead and cut him as a character completely because of a poorly developed relationship over three movies, denying ourselves of the potential revenue we'd get from making more godforsaken Bumblebee figures. Yeah that's totally going to happen.
You do realize if this is a total reboot, it would still technically be a new cast even if it has a Bumblebee in it, right? It would be a different Bumblebee than the one in the current movies.
It is not a totally new reboot, it's a semi-reboot, new setting, same chronology. And I do think they could kill off BB and introduce a new kidde appeal character [Hot Rod, Hot Shot, take your pick], but it's unlikely.,
Bay is not a man known for shaking up the formula. It'll be a new kid exactly like Shia that befriends Bumblebee.
Isnt the 4th instalment a prequil or a re-start on the series? I thought MBay stated that. Sorry if im wrong.
