Being in a poorly written movie.

Prime wasn't a freakin god in the first movie. Bonecrusher gave him a decent fight, and Megatron threw him around like a rag doll.

You're not getting, The Fallen had no idea where the Matrix was, if he attacked earlier, Sam would have looked at him and ran away, carrying his precious Matrix with him [thus taking even more time to find it]. When he finally located the Matrix, he came crashing down.
