The Avengers to be bigger than DOTM?

Please don't. We need the forest more than we need either of these movies. Honestly, while I expect Avengers to possibly be a better movie, I don't think I see it beating DotM in box office.

Yes, Avengers has had build up. But the worldwide gross of DotM beats the worldwide gross of the Captain America, Thor, and Incredible Hulk movies COMBINED. Yeah, adding the Iron Man 2 gross to the total puts it over the top, but Avengers is still just one movie. The audience for Cap, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor completely overlap. So it's not that you combine the gross of all those movies to get an idea of how many people will go see Avengers.

I think Avengers will probably do about Iron Man 2 numbers, maybe a little more. But not that much more. I still think it will do less than a billion worldwide.

I think The Avengers has a reasonable chance of making one billion. According to boxoffice.com it’s tracking an opening weekend of about 160 million, with about 370 million for the overall domestic gross. To be honest, I think that's a bit on the low side. I think this stands a very good chance of hitting the 400 million mark domestically. Nonetheless, it’s all about the overseas takings. I will say that one problem The Avengers could have is that superhero films, unless they have Batman or Spider-Man in them, tend to make much more domestically than overseas. Of course, The Avengers is a little different. Nothing like this has been seen before. Even so, whilst it can make a billion, I don’t think it will. However, I don’t think it will make much less either. I think it will exceed 850 million, at least.

Depends on the story line IMO, but I think Avenger's storyline wise will be out DOTM.

I do not think the Avengers will beat transformers outside America, as the robots are more familiar to us here in Britain than the cast of the Avengers. But we shall have to see.

Well it could be a much improvment with the developing more of the major characters, i don't see the movie as a combination of all the movies those guys have been in, i rather focusing on how the avengers would turn out to be in one piece.
