The Avengers to be bigger than DOTM?

TF4 will probably beat the Avengers, but let's give another movie the big spot for a while.

I'm assuming we simply mean "bigger" in the sense of awesomeness, action, scale, etc.? Not box office take, critical reviews, etc.? Because the latter will be a very different story.

Well, based on trailers it looks like it's definitely on par - to say the least - with DotM on the 'action/destruction/mayhem'-side. Whether or not it actually tops it will really be up to the individual viewer. Once it's released, some fans may argue that DotM beats it, while others will say that Avengers tops it.

Even a concept like 'action' is subjective. My friend (who is legitimately knowledgable about filmmaking) absoultely despises the "action" in the the LOTR trilogy. He thinks that it sucks and that Peter Jackson can't direct action to save his life. Majority of the people I encounter disagree with him on that matter, but that's just it. It's opinion. People can look at DotM's action and say that it's boring, poorly shot, horrible, etc., and some can look at it and say that it's the best action they've ever seen.

So I guess only time will tell on that matter.

Nah, DOTM will be bigger. Even though I really didn't like DOTM, I still think it would be WAY bigger! The only cool characters in there are Iron Man and Hawkeye. I think they really messed up with the designs for Captain America and Thor.

It's a year old, panned by critics and hasn't had 4 years and 5 movies of build up. If Avengers doesn't beat in the box office I will burn a forest.

I think The Avengers will be bigger than DOTM. Even as a TF fan, I did feel a bit letdown by the third movie, and while it was better than ROTF I think Bay still committed too many bad habits like weak characterization and plot, and the action was only salvagable by ILM's spectacular rendering of the giant robots. From all the reviews I've read about The Avengers, it will not only deliver on action and character development, but also humor and story. Some reviews even say it will be the best CBM ever. I think The Avengers will be a movie that actually lives up to the hype, which is something I can't say about DOTM.
