    Avengers movie?

    Stupid kid appear characters? No.
    Fart jokes? No.
    Shakey cam? Less.
Actual good writer and director? Yes.

Gee, I wonder why it did better!?

According to the special effects guy for the Iron Man movies, you NEVER see a "real" armor EVER in the movie. They had real armors on the set, but they were ALWAYS overlayed with CG armors on every frame of EVERY scene.

And? Is there a comparison between how long the armor was on-screen vs. how long the robots were in Transformers? Just because it was visible for longer doesn't mean there weren't long stretches of time where there was just people talking and no armor-action.

Erm...the most loved character in avengers seem to be the extremely CGI Hulk.

Transformers...is/was one of the best selling toy brands in the world, it is what grew Hasbro to be the huge toy giant that it is today, (according to the interview with the guy who brought the toys over here on tfarchive) and were friggin huge...by far the biggest cartoon of the 80s...not for a year or two - but for 5 years. It rose above being just a cartoon and became an Icon - it got so famous that it is constantly used in Media even today, 3 decades later:

    robot chicken episode 1 part 1of 2 - YouTube

    Los Simpson Transformers - YouTube

Family Guy- Sex with Optimus Prime - YouTube

    Optimus Prime Secrets - YouTube

and this is just a handfull of appearences...and please note that they don't do this because they are supposed to promote anything - it is merely because G1 optimus prime is so well known that he is in these clips

How much of an iconic status is he? Enough so to be used by the friggin president of america in a video that is supposed to be over the top patriotic:

President Obama Roasts the Donald at 2011 Correspondents' Dinner -Full Video - YouTube (watch the first minute - it's awesome)

So pu-lease don't try to pass off the source material as not being as well known as the Avengers, because it's not...it's just not. You may not have been there during the 80s to realize just how big G1 was, but it was WAY bigger than the Avengers.

Do you know how many kids cried when OP died in the 1986 movie? Hell, grown ups too for that matter. It's about the story telling - plain and simple.

Exactly. It has nothing to do with CGI characters, because ILM did such a great job with them that we came to believe that they really do exist on the big screen. And Optimus Prime was fleshed out enough for me to actually care about him more than Sam or other human characters in the movies. Bay could've done the same to Bumblebee, but by taking away his voice BB existed to be merely a lap dog for Sam to get chicks with and nothing else, and the rest of the Autobots might as well were drones because they all behave more or less the same (so Ironhide is a bit more angry than Ratchet...okay so?). I don't expect anything different in TF4, though.

Do you know how many kids cried when all of the Autobots allegedly died in DotM?

My guess would be nearly none, since none of the movie Autobots were ever presented as proper characters with distinct personalities (other than the twins, ironically). That makes them hard to connect to or really care about beyond the spectacle of the fighting.

I ask myself that everytime I'm watching the movies and I see humping robots, balls, and all of those other wonderful things. :redface2:  I can easily imagine Spielberg's version to have any and all of the (potential) charm of Bayformers, just without the useless bulls**t. All of the good, none of the bad. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Jazz distracted Megatron so the others could fall back. Ironhide and Ratchet were both useful at various times: taking down Brawl, fighting off Megatron in the forest, Destroying the control Pillar. If you can't tell what is going on, it's your own fault.

No lol that's absurd. The reason they had to slow down some of the scenes was because no one could tell wtf was happening.

First of all, that wasn't the point I was making. I said that the Avengers have a longer and more well-constructed history (which is a fact, not an opinion). And I was 6 in 1984, so I was there at the very beginning of the Transformers craze, smart guy.

A Cessna and a C130 are both airplanes, yet one is more costly than the other.

Can you tell me the time marker for the Optimus Prime reference? I do not like this president enough to watch an 18 minute video just to see it. I would skip right to it just to see why he said it.

Its just within the first minute; it's before Obama even begins his address. They do a video montage to introduce him and a g1 Optimus clip is shown.
