If this movie happens in the same bayformer universe? I could see this happening kinda if it got all cosmic marvel. Like somebody came across Cybertron or something, or soundwave found that rainbow bridge thing Thor uses to get to earth and he copies it for the space bridge. Or Megatron teams with the skrulls. Or Loki tricks the cons by giving them space bridge tech, to do something for him. I would be kinda cool seeing Hulk or Thor fight some Cons. It would be a cool one off. I would like to see the GI Joe/Universe combine in the future somehow. Far future. Maybe MECH from Prime turns into Cobra. They hate robots. Want to give the world "back" to humans. NEST turns into the Joes. Bots are off the planet, but have bases on earth. IDK, something.
My dream was actually more of the Transformers Prime universe, brought into the Marvel Universe world (basically photo-realistic TF-P renders). With Transformers being Top Secret, obviously SHIELD would know about them, and Stark was using ARC reactor tech to synthesize Energon. Hulk totally THRASHED Hercules/Devastator, who was attacking Stark Industries .... tore off Scrapper-leg and started beating Devastator with it... Thor hits Megatron up the side of the head with the hammer, Megatron lunges with his sword out to skewer "the flesh slug" only to be blocked by Thor, and then hit repeatedly with the hammer and then struck by a lightning-charged tornado. Prime is somewhat confused, but thankful for the save, and Agent Coulson appears next to Prime, and explains "You didn't think we'd allow giant robots to run amok without some sort of fail safe, did you?"
I've loved crossovers ever since the symbiote-enhanced Spider-Man coccooned Megatron in an attempt to save Gears from being turned into mush. Avengers & Transformers just seem a natural mix, due to the nature of the usual foes the Avengers face (i.e. giant robots, Ultron, Galactus, Loki's Frost Giants, etc) GI Joe/Transformers crossover would be cool, too, but that's what the Bay Movies ARE... Lennox = Duke, etc... Plus, we already found out that if it's not Vietnam-era vehicles and guns, GI Joe fans pee their pants - the concept of Transformers would be too much for them.

An Avengers/Transformers movie is an interesting idea, but who would you have directing it? (I would suggest that we wait for the Avengers movie to go mainstream and then compare it with the Transformers movies.)

Well, my dream took that into account, since Thor (a god) took on Megatron, and Ironman (best aerial fighter in the MU) took on Starscream, and Hulk (near impervious and strength borders limitless) took on Devastator. Capt America, Hawkeye, and other Avengers were taking on smaller bots (Ravage, Lazerbeak) and Vehicon/drones... so the match-ups were pretty good. Autobots were also there, fighting, but the Decepticons are used to them, so they weren't as effective (think TF1). I've never read the AvsTF comics, so I can't comment on them, but I've read dozens of decently written fanfics that would work, and as for Transformers vastly outpowering Marvel heroes... again, Megatron was briefly contained by symbiote-enhanced Spider-Man's webbing, and Ravage was no match for him either, so if Spidey can do it, I'm pretty sure the Avengers could too.
