No. He aint the jesus of movies man. Just because he probably did well for the avengers doesnt mean he will do well on transformers. They are very different properties and joss whedon has his own area of expertise. Anyway he already had five films backing up the possible success of the avengers.

I think Whedon could actually do a very good job with the franchise. His strength is in ensemble casts, where no one character shines over the others, and I think that for something like Transformers, it'd be a great touch.

Really? Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible?? None of those were enjoyable to you?

I absolutely hated the episodes of Buffy and Angel I watched; don't remember much of the details of which ones I saw, just that they were terrible. After hearing everyone go on about how 'awesome' Firefly was, I tried a few episodes of that and thought it was just as bad. I just really don't care for Whedon's style. Can't comment about Dollhouse or Dr Horrible (whatever that is), since I learned my lesson and stayed away from them.

Ha ha, considering how I'm ready to trade in our current director for anyone with talent at crafting a story I can't see why I'd say no.

I don't know if Transformers is Joss Whedon's brand of geekdom, but I've enjoyed his other work so the odds seem to be in favor of me liking what his take on Transformers might be. His good guys aren't unbeatable and his female characters are just more than eye candy so that's sounding better than what we have now.

I've been saying that Joss would have been an awesome director for TF's ever since I first heard that a live action movie was being made, both here, on imdb, on the club forum and on other forums. Here's what I said as late as November/December last year in this forum:

Yes, he would make for an AWESOME director, especially if he was involved in the writing process as well. BUT, it would have to be a reboot to give him free hands to do whatever he wanted.

Now, now - just because you don't know much about the topic at hand doesn't mean that the rest of us don't.

honestly I dont understand people who outright just say no to Whedon. Its a little suspicious

I get the feeling when people are just so outright against it they are just really pro Bay. In these scenarios you could be suggest the best director in the world and they would just say they suck. For some Bay is the only director they have known about for a transformers movies and think he is the only one who can do it. Quite honestly to say its the only way it can be done and bay is the only director is just being closed minded. Id still love to see the movies actually resemble the characters we all love and know instead of just being a CGI prop which to me says there is a better director out there for Transformers.

Sadly we will never get Whedon mostly because we are only ever going to get Bay ughh again. In my perspective Bay is one of the directors you get to remove story line from a movie and just make it pretty. While that works for some that kills the movie for myself. I needed more cybertron more back story more interesting ancient things about transformers that make them deep. Really they trivialized the whole franchise by placing a God/Religious spin on them versus the Metropolis idea where they just became sentient and built their civilizaiton up.

Hell I would take so many other directors before I'd let Bay direct another Transformers movie. I need more substance and familiarity other wise its just like watching any other movie.

I would love for whedon to take over. I would also not mind moffat taking over. would it work? probably not. they would be out of their element. whedon's good at doing stories on lowly space crews, and shy guys that can't find the courage to talk to a girl, yet has the courage to join an evil league of evil. moffat is good with doctor who. but the doctor would never meet something like megatron.

Sure. At the very least we'd get to see a different take on TF than BayFormers. You can't judge if someone is ever the only one that can do a thing until you've tried out alternatives.

My only real concern would be Whedon would make his human characters cool and the TF still wouldn't be given as much care. But then just the addition of well-written and directed human characters would be a boost up from BayFormers' efforts with them. Bay may not be the writer but no doubt he's probably killed enough scripted good lines given to him and swapped in some dire ones of his own.

This is something I appreciate about Whedon. He knows how to write an ensemble cast. Like with Buffy, it was no secret Buffy was the star but every main character contributed, every main character (and even some supporting characters) had stories and personalites and depth. Buffy wouldn't have been half of what it was without the strength of the ensemble cast and characters he put together.

Someone like Whedon could do one better than the "Optimus Prime and Bumblebee" show.

Nice try. It's obviously no coincidence at all that 3/4 of all these director names being suggested happen moments after they release a new action movie, right? Because despite him NEVER making an actual live action movie before, people just happen to have all this love for Brad Bird coincidentally the day after Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol was released? Right. And true to form, here's Joss Whedon's name now being dropped thanks to 4 people saying The Avengers is allegedly pretty good after the sneak peak premiere. And just watch, as soon as Battleship comes out and another handful of people think it's decent, Peter Berg's name will be the next "new TF4 director" thread starter.

    It's obnoxiously predictable.

I think you could be right on that one. Some people really seem to have bought into the idea that only Micheal Bay can direct Transformers movies so people seemed to be closed off as to what other directors could bring to the movies.

Sadly Paramount seems to have totally gone for this rather odd notion as well so until the public is just sick and tired of the same Transformers movie again and again and again, I'm afraid we are stuck with Micheal Bay and the movies as they currently are.

I hate to be the one that rocks the boat, but I want Joss Whedon to stay far away from Transformers. Largely because his style of dialogue pisses me off to no end, Buffy being the most obnoxious example.
