Yeah because Happy Hogan, a comical bit part, was the central character of Iron Man and Iron Man 2, not Tony Stark.......

    ...........are you from Barcelona?

And what evidence is there to support that? Jon Favreau has cast himself as (one of the) lead roles in one of his six-directed movies: Made, in 2001. A bit part in Iron Man, a minor (or supporting role at best) in Iron Man 2, cameo in Elf. Don't think he showed up in Zathura. A couple cameos/minor roles =/= the lead actor. The man likes to put cameos of himself in his movies. What a rebel. That kind of thing is so taboo in cinema. Wait... ;)  If Favreau were to cast himself in his potential Transformers trilogy, he'd probably give himself a minor role like Bobby Bolivia in Transformers, the museum guard in RotF or one of the interviewers for Sam's job in DotM. And honestly, I'd love to see that. He could play a different bit-part in all three movies, similar to Bruce Campbell in Raimi's Spider-Man movies. :lol

Anywho, Favreau is a competent filmmaker and actor. He's got the comedic chops and timing that would allow for some good chuckles, or even out-and-out laughs, if he wanted us to. I'd be all for a Jon Favreau Transformers.

If you have to ask something like this then I kinda doubt you'll either understand or accept whatever answers people will give to your question as it sounds like you didn't find anything bad about DotM and can't fathom what other people didn't like about it, even after having hung around the movie forum here and likely seen plenty of posts where people state what they felt was bad about the movies. That's not to say your liking of DotM is wrong though as you obviously got everything you expected of or wanted from the movie. Others however, didn't. More power to you for your enjoyments. Some are still waiting for that power to happen for them. Maybe TF4.
However, before the 'hatorz' angle comes out I did actually feel DotM was a step up from RotF. It was still lacking for me, but it was a slight improvement on some things. But a turd that smells less bad than the previous turd is still a turd.

But these two have some good points in answer for you:

I just want to point out that Bay appeared for a few seconds in the first Transformers movie.

Was that ever confirmed to be him being flicked away by Megatron?

Although if you guys want famous, great directors who loved cameos, Alfred Hitchcock is pretty much the go-to guy for that.

True. Favreau is a great director and actor,

Last night I saw the episode of My Name is Earl where he played a jerkass fast food manager.

True. And there's nothing wrong with a director putting himself in his own movie (not calling you out, Kostya, just the original point in general :)  ). As Autobot Burnout said, Hitchcock's schtick was that exact thing, along with Favreau, Bay, Peter Jackson and many others. I mean, who wouldn't want to film themselves as a random soldier getting shot for 0.6 seconds in their own movie? :D  Or a "bystander #4" shouting as debris fell next to them?

I can't recall 100%, but I believe Bay addresses the issue on the audio commentary. Something about "...there was a longer cameo of me that was filmed, but in the end we had to leave it out. But that guy? That guy getting flicked...is me" (or something like that). I could be wrong, though.

I am definitely not a big supporter of the bay movies. I feel that they have a lot of wasted potential. I just think people are a tad too harsh on them.

I agree, Ironhide's death was done badly.
    Optimus was over the top.
Dino would have been cooler as Mirage.
Sam's job hunting and all that went on far too long.
Megatron had one of the most anti-climactic deaths of any movie villain.

I remember maybe two or three major scenes that had Happy in them, all with jokes at his expense. I certainly don't remember him getting drunk, fighting his best friend, and being threatened with tazing and drooling.

Whedon has proven his character chops over and over, and has had two seriously (critically) successful action movies as well. I think he would knock Transformers out of the park.

That said, I'm happy with what we've got.

Gotta disagree. Whedon wrote/co-wrote it as well directed it.

The character interaction in several instances practically screamed Whedon, and there were many "Whedonisms" in the movie. The character interaction and dialogue have gotten consistent praise, and most of that is down to Whedon, (with maybe some ad-libbing from the actors).

Whedon deserves so much credit for this movie. As someone who grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and been inspired by Whedon's writing throughout school, I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves. Is he perfect? No. But he's proven when it comes to characters and story, he knows his craft very well.

I have a lot of appreciation for someone with his writing skills, and he's definitely proven his directing skills as well.

Avengers has some amazing character moments, the kind I want to see come out of Transformers. Whedon understood what the movie was about: The Avengers! Not the random people around the Avengers.

The movies biggest source of wasted potential is when they start eating up the screentime with things like Sam trying to get a job and the like. I understand that if there were no humans at all there wouldn't be much point in it being live action, but they could at least focus on military characters, and the people who are around the Transformers the most. Or, here's an idea: have well known actors play the role of hologram drivers!

Maybe not alone he's not, but he is one of the many reasons why it's fantastic.
