In the first two films the Decepticons were hellbent on annihilating all or at least most of the human race. TFilm had them going after the AllSpark for its ultimate power; although Megatron offered to let Sam live to be his pet, he’s obviously going to finish off his pets once they no longer entertain him or serve further purpose for him. In ROTF it was pretty much the same deal: they were looking for a means to activate the solar harvester machine, which would not only give them enough energon to keep going but would kill off the human race.

DOTM took a somewhat different turn: the Decepticons maintained a spy ring of humans to do their work, and with the Autobots out of the way, take over Earth and make the humans their slaves. This change was caused but by the need for labour to rebuild Cybertron. They possibly saw how useful human slaves are, but it’s more the fact that they just like the idea of having slaves to control and that it’s easier to use foreign labour than their own for rebuilding their homeworld.

On the whole, I thought DOTM’s plan was rather impractical:
    - First off, how long would it take humans to construct an alien machine empire? Besides, how were they going to rebuild Cybertron without the AllSpark?
    - Secondly, Decepticons are incapable of looking after slaves; they’ll probably work them all to death or even massacre in the first decade of slavery or so. I don’t know if Sentinel was insane enough to use human slaves to rebuild Cybertron, or whether he just entertained the idea of slaves to rule over. Either way, human slaves wouldn’t have lasted long.
    - Thirdly and most obviously from these films, humanity has proven themselves as worthy foes, twice over. Taking such foes as slaves may sound great, but it puts them in a position where they can turn on you easily. It would have resulted in a man vs machine war worthy of THE TERMINATOR series. As seen in the film, NEST Demolition team did some serious damage to the Decepticons and an aerial strike took out most of the gunships, so it was quite feasible that humans can rise against the Decepticons.

Slavery is arguably worse than death: it’s a slow, degrading and painful death. But still I thought the whole “kill them all” thing the Decepticons had going for them was more awesome and menacing (Blackout, Frenzy, Ravage, Laserbeak). After all: only trophies, no prisoners or even slaves!

Hard to tell. We have people who can witness how slavery is/was, but no one to tell us what happens after you die...

    To get to the point...
It was more of a desparate plan. Both sides were tired and worn out from a long war. So, they figure if they can use humans and their machines to rebuild Cybertron it's at least something to try...and hey who cares if those fleshlings die.

Depends how quick and painless the death was going to be.
I was told there'd be punch and pie.

You die, you wont suffer in the future.
You're enslaved, you suffer in the future.
    Enslavement> Death.

I'd say being a slave is worse, because then you have to do a lot of work before they just kill you anyway once you're done.

I'd rather just die than be a slave for the rest of my life.

It really depends on the situation. I mean, if you're a slave that is beaten and tortured with no sign of freedom on the horizon, death may be better. But not all slaves are completely mistreated. Back during the civil war, some slaves were treated fairly well. They lived in their masters houses, ate decent meals and were even treated with some kindness. Sure being a slave is terrible, but if I'm being treated okay, why would I want to die?

Like I said, it all depends on the situation.

I fail to see how its ******ed, if they could destroy chicago with a few hundred bots, with one sentence, he could've had all the other troops whipe earth out.

    No he couldn't.

Earth has plenty of military power to deliver some serious ass-whoppin to the Decepticons.

this. if you're being tortured relentlessly, death is better. if you're being treated well and have shelter and food, death can wait.

Sure. If that were true, they would've done that in dotm, but wait. They did!
Don't forget the military was trying to enter chicago but couldn't because the cons brought them down?

Yeah, they literally took over Chicago in a matter of hours. Imagine what they could have done when Cybertron had been fully transported and the Decepticons around the world rallied together with any remaining forces from Cybertron?

Well, there was this one guy, but we're not allowed to talk about him. ;)

The old saying fits it best. "Give me liberty, or give me death!" Freedom is worth dying for because life as a slave just isn't worth living.

I'm absolutely against the idea of slavery. It's repulsive to think that anyone could "own" another sentient being as property and to dehumanize them in that manner. The concept itself is awful...in the example of african slaves being treated well by some during the colonial era? Remember that they were still property and could be traded or sold away in a blink of an eye to anyone who can pay. They had no rights and no respect by anyone.

I'd sooner die than live in slavery, assuming I could do nothing to fight against the enslavers.
