thats a lot a info ya got there. and this is probably completely off topic (sorry) but that pic of cybertron going back through the space bridge is actually the first real good pic i've seen of the planet yet, it's bigger than i thought, compared to earth.

Well there are without doubt several Star Trek references, especially referring to Sentinals similarities to Mirror Spock.
Though it doesn't take much to realize that the movies arent very deep at all. But I applaud your imagination.

Considering one of them has a silly 80's plot, I somewhat agree.

I mentioned the thing about Sentinel having the metal goatee as a reference to the "Mirror, Mirror" episode of Star Trek a while back, but no one thought much of it.

    WTF.

I had to rush out the door and hit the road so soon after posting this that I never even got a chance to respond to all your replies!

    D:

Sorry, guys, it was just another case of the real world getting in the way, not the company.

    :-*

Well, okay, the company certainly left a bit to be desired and I still have a couple serious issues to hash out with the staff/administration, but still...thanks for helping to keep things in line and civil!

I know it wasn't always easy on you!

    Much appreciated and much obliged.

    <3

I don't know, it's a pretty talented and well-paid crew behind these films and I tend to see it all as kind of obvious...but then it all depends on your level of geekery, perhaps. I guess I AM pretty much knee-deep AT LEAST in both franchises at any given moment so maybe it just leaps right out at me.

But, again, like 'em or not these movies are made by very talented craftsmen at or near the tops of their professions, laboring for months and even YEARS over the minutiae LONG before WE ever see it. So I don't think it's uncalled for to grant them the benefit of the doubt, particularly when their own fields are steeped in such geekdom as they are. No need to channel the Roddenberrys or whatever, these films had plenty of relevant subject matter experts on hand as it was, I'm sure.

    Hahaha...WELL said!

Well...at least for those of us here on the board, it IS now.

    :p

With a dialogue-sample of Uhura, no less!

But I was focusing pretty exclusively on the most recent TF film so didn't really think it necessary to include the others. Definitely a worthy addition though, thanks!

    Glad you asked!

The transporter effect has gone through numerous permutations but THAT was the best image I could find online to demonstrate the similarities between franchises, what with the vertical-lines-through-a-transporting-energy-fields and such, that's all.

And as much of a fan of ST:TOS as I may be, I like some of the spin-offs just as well so I'm actually pretty egalitarian in my views there. It IS Star Trek, after all!!!

    ;)

    Thanks, nice to hear!

The oversized glut of that Errors, etc. thread is obviously a bit of a problem for anyone playing catch-up like I was, and in fact I never really bothered beyond skimming maybe half of it in my spare time. Didn't notice anything along those lines or I would've gladly referred to it herein, but support is support so I'm glad to hear I'm not alone on that, thanks!

Not exactly sure where you think I may have gone astray and reached perhaps too far with the space bridge/transporter beam connection but I'm sure someone will happily step forth to elaborate, lol.

    ;)

Bah! The things I miss around here...

Wish I would've seen it, I'd have readily supported your point and joined the discussion. Sorry! Still kind of a n00b here.

    :-\

    HELL, yeah! Thanks a lot!

If nothing else I certainly hope my threads are occasionally an interesting and entertaining read, at least.

    :)

And THAT is always the PRIMARY goal!!! The greater appreciation for the themes of the movies that is, lol.

Thanks for saying so, btw...the atmosphere was just a BIT oppressively stifling over here for a while, so it's very refreshing to hear.

    Progress!!!

    :D

Hope you get the chance, I'd love the feedback!

Since it's surely buried countless pages in the background by now, here you go.

Enjoy, and I hope to hear back from you there someday!

    :)

Absolutely 100% AGREED about the casting!

Man, I almost couldn't believe he was still so astonishingly sharp and on-point with his mad-acting skillz. So many times I just positively SQUEE-ed with utter fanboy delight and awestruck glee. I distinctly remember thinking to myself at the midnight premiere during the line, "WE WERE GODS ONCE, ALL OF US!!!" something to the effect of, "Holy $#!T, I just got chills and goosebumps from being snarled at by an octogenarian. AWESOMENESS!!!"

    O_O

Haha, i c wut u al dd thurr...but THANKS, everyone!

Any support is GOOD support so damnit I'll TAKE it!

    ;)

    NOW we're talking!!!

That really warms the heart-cockles, guys...MUCH appreciated!

As a fan, of course, the work is its own reward. But a kind word or two never hurts!

    Dawww.

    :')

    Haha, NEVAR!

Like I said up top, I've just been SUPER busy geeking out excessively elsewhere since sometime around Easter. Multiple warring factions of fandom coexist within my being and I was forced to heed the call of my favorite band on the road and all that. Got a couple weeks till the next leg of their tour gets fired up though so I thought I'd catch up here a little in the meantime.

Plenty more to come, I assure you!!!

    >;)

You want to see some over analyzing? Here it goes:
-Sentinel Prime is voiced by Leonard Nimoy.
    -Leonard Nimoy played Spock.
    -Spock is a Vulcan.
-Vulcan is the god of blacksmiths, fire, and basically inventions in Roman mythology.
-Similarly, Sentinel Prime is a great inventor and scientist who invented the space bridge pillars and his rust cannon.

I need to get out more.

Wasn't it stated that Sentinel Prime's face is based on Christopher Lee, not Spock?

When designing Sentinel Prime, they based his facial structure/body language/attitude on Sean Connery, not Christopher Lee. :)  Then when animating they incorporated Leonard Nimoy's facial movements into it.

    i thought this was great.

i actually never thought the "needs of the many" line was meant for everyone.. it always seemed like he was just talking about transformers.

i even remember, after hearing it for the first time, think thinking, wow, he's right..

anyways, you made a very convincing case.. there are a lot of references.. and since there are so many there, it's difficult to think they're all just a coincidence.

pretty cool.. i have never been a star trek fan.. and i'm still not one.. but it's still cool.

Thanks so much! Apologies for my extended delay in responding, I've kinda been living on the road lately so internet access is tricky, but all feedback is always welcome.

A bunch of my other threads got locked thanks to inane trolls and some extremely poor "moderating" (still hoping to address that successfully with the administration here eventually) but if you've got some time to kill and an open mind you might enjoy checking them out when you get a chance.

    :)
