it would be reviled by the fandom.
"I don't like your face. You seem like a nice person, but when we talk, I don't have fun."

I'll copy my ideas here...

VERSION 1: Bright and “Trippy”
Overall Feeling: The bright colours and production design would help sell the more “alien” feel to the movie.
Visual Effects: Used a lot, and used expertly.
Transformer Design Possibilities: Very bright and vibrant colours for both the Autobots and Decepticons alike.
Casting Choices: Johnny Depp as a cooky, crazy character - Cybertronian or human. Deep Roy as Wheelie.

Overall Feeling: Dark and gritty. Many scenes would take place at night, or in dark places.
Visual Effects: Used sparingly, but very good.
Transformer Design Possibilities: Designs would be very dark and gritty. Lots of dark shades, grays and deep blues. A "dull" palette overall. Steampunk. Steampunk EVERYWHERE.
Casting Choices: Christopher Lee as Megatron or The Fallen or some other big bad. Good chance that Johnny Depp and/or Helena Bonham Carter would have more serious roles, either human roles or as Transformer voices. I wouldn’t put it past Burton to cast Helena Bonham Carter as Starscream. In fact, now that I mention it, that idea is rather intriguing... Either a male Starscream with her deeper voice, or create a female Starscream (not Slipstream exactly, but a female). Hmmm...

Either version would probably be met with animosity by the fandom (but that's pretty much unavoidable) and either version would be very financially successful.
Interested in anything to do with voice-acting? Look no further than Behind the Voice Actors!

- There’d be oodles of atmosphere and darkness, and de-saturated cinematography
- Extensive stop-motion puppetry would be utilized
- The Transformers would have Goth steampunk designs (as seen in WILD WILD WEST and CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY)
- Most of the film would be shot in an anachronistic locations (you know, to make it look 1950s or 1980s)
- Optimus and Megatron would have braces on their teeth and look like Jack Skellington
- Ironhide, in a bit of morbid humour, would be a hearse
- Arcee would be voiced by Winona Ryder
- Sideswipe would have scissorhands and be voiced by Johnny Depp
- Jetfire’d be voiced by Christopher Lee
- Laserbeak would be a Poe-quoting raven voiced by Danny Elfman
- and the main human would be a geek who is unable to express himself to his love interest (a hot Goth chick) till the end of the film.

You're welcome to add more, if you like (as long as it's not overly offensive).
This actually sounds like a much, much better idea than I ever would have thought...
