I've been a fan for over 20 years. I was in college when G1 first came on the scene. I fondly remember spending many an afternoon in the Student's television room, watching the show with dozens of my fellow collegians, suddenly all of us 10 years-old again. On weekends I made special trips to my cousin's house where we watched hours of recorded episodes.

At the time, Transformers was nothing short of revolutionary and rightly eclipsed all other cartoon offerings. Many folks in their late teens and early 20s at the time enjoyed Transformers because the concept was relatively new, much of the dialogue was rather intelligent, and the animation seemed richer than that presented in most other fare. The toys proved to be crappy, but the show provided great fun.

After season 1, I began wondering what it would be like to watch a live action TF movie. I knew the technology to do such a thing was years away, but I figured someone would come along and make it happen. It was a long wait, but overall it was worth it.

Before the movies, I only knew the premise of Transformers and that Megatron was in it. I didn't even know who Optimus Prime was.

No, I was not. I had seen ads for it and such on Cartoon Network but never watched anything. The 2007 flick was the first thing I saw (it was at a theatre built into my cousins' lake condo!) and I remember thinking it was awesome.

I grew up watching the G1 cartoons, but I can't say that I was really a fan, because I was too young to really understand any of it. The moment the first movie began in the theater in 2007, I was hooked.

The films brought such life, realism, and meaning to the characters that the cartoons never could have even dreamed of doing, and they reached a far broader audience than the cartoons.

I think the films have done for the franchise what Star Wars did, and that is become a part of our culture; an icon.

My first taste of TF was Beast Wars, I was probably watching some re-runs of it in the early 2000's, because I was only a wee laddie then (not knowing what it really was). Then I totally forgot TF until the Unicron Trilogy, and then became a true fan due to the Movies and the Aligned Continuity.

Not in my present capacity. And by that I mean actively collecting.

I grew up in the 80's watching the G1 cartoon and have always been a fan of that version of Transformers, but the "fanboy" in me lie dormant. Actually, it was G.I. Joe that reignited my passion for G1 Transformers. My "gateway" into this addiction so to speak. Ha. In any event, I happened upon a Hall of Heroes Zartan (one of my all-time favorite characters from G.I. Joe ARAH) at a TJ Maxx a couple years ago with it's vintage-esque packaging and this rush of nostalgic euphoria coursed through me. The vision of him sitting there on the shelf harkened me back to the days of my childhood playing with him, his swamp-skier and the rest of the Dreadnoks in my backyard. Anyway, after that I began collecting Joes (again) and recording episodes of ARAH and G1 TF because they aired back-to-back on the Hub. It took a few months of watching the G1 TF cartoon again, but before I knew it I was roped and began collecting.

When the first movie came out, I didn't even rush out to see it. One of my buddies actually had to drag me to it. See, I was reluctant to accept it in that form because it was such a far cry from what I remembered from my youth, at least with regard to some of the characters. This whole subculture of toy collecting wasn't even on my radar when the first movie broke and it, in and of itself, didn't do anything to catalyze my interest in partaking. Nevertheless I enjoy the movies for what they are --- kick ass action movies!

But yeah, nothing will ever usurp G1's stranglehold on the top spot in my book. Often replicated, but never duplicated! So, for those reasons, although I like the movies, they didn't make me a fan all over again. G1 is responsible for my being here and my collection reflects just that as I have nary a movieverse figure in sight. I was merely on hiatus. ;)

TF1 brought me to the franchise and I will always love it for that. Plus I think it's a really good film.

Hell yea I was a Transformers fan WAY before the movies! ^.^ My gma was the best! lol I had a "robot" bib when I was a weee lil thing, and then from there, I dont think I ever got anything else BUT robot/Go-Bots/Transformer stuff!. Well that and my Atari collection :p
My love for TF runs deep for me and my imagination never seems to elude me when I'm around my collection or just in everyday life. Heck When I was little, I'd go outside and imagine the cars and vehicles transforming and being my friends lmao Once an Autobot, always an Autobot, I guess ^.^

Been a fan for 12 years now...becoming less of a fan very quickly though, the newer figures just don't do it for me. I'm more of a Gundam guy now :lol
