I'd say there is actually a pretty good chance. Nearly every excuse they had for not including the Dinobots has been eliminated.
No one really cared how Laserbeak, Scorponok, and Ravage got to look like Earth animals. So why can't they create Transformers with dinosaurs for alternate modes?

No they are not, but they are not as epic as dinosaurs.

Dinos existed for millions of years before getting wiped out so they are obviously suited for combat and extreme conditions, especially if they were in some robot form. So I think it would be awesome to bring in some Transformers with dinosaur alt-modes. Plus they would look epic and probably terrifying so it can also be worth it as a strategy via intimidation of the enemy.

    Bring forth the dinosaurs! :D

I think what fucks up with the Dinobots for me is this: Laserbeak, Scorponok and Ravage, they were animal-shaped robots, Dinobots are robots who TURN into robotic-shaped animals, that seems a bit ridiculous for a movie, I think, the dinosaur form just doesn't make much sense.

Now, they could work if their "extra" form were Dinosaur-LIKE, not a full-blown goddamn T-rex.

Gastornis was a terror bird and it's extinct.
The ancient sea scorpions from the Ordovician Epoch are extinct.
The North American Jaguar is extinct.

Also, @daitarn red, Pteranodons were prehistoric reptiles, not birds. They belong to a group of animals known as pterosaurs, animals related to dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are more closely related to birds than pterosaurs.

The Dinobots could scan the anamatronic dinosaurs for the Walking With Dinosaurs show.
I do like the idea of them having vehicle alternate modes with dinosaur-like third modes. That's pretty cool.

Do not argue about what is and what's not a dinosaur to a guy that has "Dino" in his name. You're not going to win.

I don't see why Dinobots can't be in the flim series. Obviously Dinosaur forms would be great in combat, it would be nice to have some form variety in the Autobot ranks, and thirdly they can scan the bones in museums as reference.

Very nice. I think it could work, they come down to Earth, land on or near the Museum of Natural History and scan the displays within the museum - no problem. It's not like they would know that dinosaurs were extinct.....they are aliens afterall and probably not all that aware of our history.

'Dinobots won't work in live-action'... 'dinosaur alt modes would make no sense'... kiss my ass, these images prove those arguments invalid.

Hmmm, nobody has mentioned Hatchet, a Decepticon animal that became a SUV... I think he holds a significant place, as he has proved that a non-minion Transformer can play an active role.

But I think Dinobots could only work like this: have them as pure Cybertronian animals that were tamed by the Autobots and put to use in battle, like what the Decepticons have done. Have them shout out commands they've been trained to follow, in a halting language (or like an old computer that works like this: _____:ACKNOWLEDGED or something).

For myself, I'd really like to see Sky-Lynx as an Autobot dinosaur that becomes a space shuttle.

You can do that all you want, but the fact remains that something will still feel like it's missing.

I've always thought a simple, straightforward approach like the one offered in the initial appearance of the Dinobots in the Marvel Comics series would work best for the movies.

They were here millions of years ago, scanned in some dinosaurs for alt. modes, and they weren't Pretenders so they wound up looking like dino-mechs.

And then BAM! they're reactivated in modern times but don't care to change their alt. modes.

    Easy.

All you need is a reason for them to be here millions of years ago and some way for them to be deactivated and then reactivated and you're all set. No jumping through silly hoops and concocting ways for them to scan in alt. modes at a museum or a monster truck rally or any of that "Dynobots" nonsense.

    Seems simple enough.

Pteranodons are not birds, they're Pterosaurs (flying reptiles). The reason they're not dinosaurs is because of the way their legs are

That is actually a pretty good idea. Maybe that is how the film could start.
    Fade in.
Setting: A grassland 65 million years ago.
Everything is calm until a Tricerotops comes charging at the camera. The camera follows the Tricerotops as it runs from a so far unknown predator. The camera pans out ot reveal a Tyrannosaurus chasing the tricerotops. The Rex eventually moves up to the Triceroptops and opens its mouth to attack.
Suddenly, a large mechanical humanoid crashes into the two giants, killing them both.
The camera cuts to the villain of the film reloading his/her weapon.
The other robot looks down and scans the body of the Tyrannosaurus. Another Autobot walks next to him and scans the Tricerotops body. A third Autobot swoops in from he skies. The first Autobto transforms revealing a mechanical tyrannosaurus for an alternate mode.
The villain shouts in Cybertronian and charges. The three Autobots do the same.
The camera pans up from the villains shoulder to show the Grimlock roaring and about to take a bite.
    We fade to black.
    Aaaaaand scene.
