I've been wondering for a while why the some people in the Transformers fan community feels as if the TFs themselves should get most of the screen time in a live-action Transformers movie. Anyone know why?

    The movies are called "Transformers"

Not "Shia LaBeouf and his Alien Buddies"

I want to know about the robot aliens. I've been around humans my entire life. Why would I want to know more about humans?

Blame Spielberg. He decided to tell the human side of the story.

Because it's called Transformers. Not LeDouche and his NEST team running and screaming.

The movie is called "Transformers". It doesn't make sense if there's mostly humans running around and not many scenes of giant alien robots beating the scrap out of each other. Heck. They might as well call the movies "Humanbeings".

This ^_^. It was Spielberg who mandated the "a boy and his car" angle. Judging from Bay, Orci/Kurtzman's comments, that was the one thing Steven would not bend on.

All that said, I thought DotM remedied the lack of TFs screentime by a wide margin compared to the first and second one. Of course, having a bigger budget helps putting those expensive models on the screen for longer periods of time.

At least a lot of the story was conveyed from an actual Transformer and not from the humans other than from characters that should say something about it (military personel, etc).

Would anyone want to see a GI Joe movie that had 15 minutes of GI Joe and Cobra, but 1 hour, 45 minutes staring Duke's teen-aged civilian friend, the civilian friend's girlfriend, and the civilian friend's parents and dog?

Of course not. The question doesn't even need asking.

Back what seems like far too long ago now someone had the idea that transforming robot toys needed a back story so kids would want them. Ever since then the robots have had different personalities to make their struggle against each other more interesting than robots with no personality pounding on each just for the heck of it.

If the movie is Aliens, fine the Aliens don't really seem to have a personality so they aren't needed all that much. But if a film is called Transformers and you say Jazz will be in the movie then I want as much Jazz time as they can work in to find out how this Jazz is different than the other characters with the same name in the past.

I felt the same way about that really bad Superman movie from a few years ago. I payed for a ticket expecting a lot of Superman doing really cool Superman things and instead I seem to have stepped into the Louis Lane and her super baby film instead.

But why can't the TFs and humans have equal screentime?
