So there was supposed to be some sort of nanobot pretender? Cool.

We've never had a complete ILM render of this guy.The same can be said for multiple robots.

Loving this guy, he's got the upper body of an aviator and the lower body of a dinosaur (complete with tail!):
With the Russian markings and the vestigial gun-arms, I wonder if he was an early take on Devcon, or perhaps a comrade or even "brother."
Another design I'd love Hasbro to use.

Holy crap, I just noticed the tail.

That's it. If we're not getting an artbook anytime soon, I'd rather hunt down every single designer and ask them the story behind every concept art.

I've just been assuming that all the Russian military vehicle Decepticons originated under the imperative from up top to come up with ideas for the battle sequence in Chernobyl before they settled on just using Shockwave & the Driller.

Which would explain Ratchet's presence there in the movie despite him basically doing nothing...presumably he was to have engaged them in combat before they were dropped from the scene and now he's pretty much just there as a leftover from the original idea.

And then they had all those cool designs laying around and just figured, "Meh, screw it. Plenty of military museums in D.C. and Chicago. And we DO still need a bunch of Decepticons there..."

    And the rest is history.

Lemme know if you DO manage to engage any of the concept artists in some Q&A sessions about their work, though.

Got a few things I'D like to ask them about the development process, too.

    ;)

    Also, these things:
They appear to be mish-mashes of several pre-existing TFs. The right one, for example, shares Ironhide's chest and has one of Devastator's hands for it's feet and hands.
Wonder if these were ideas for Protoforms made from recycled TF parts (several already share Blackout's head) or just quick mock-ups to get a feel for a character.

They discussed mixing-and-matching pre-existing pieces of other TFs to make the protoforms from TF:RotF, I believe...so I'd imagine any other designs like that generally fall under the same category and these were probably just some examples of the ones they liked and still wanted to show off.

He's been mentioned in here MANY times...but since Ultra Magnus was just another production codename meant to hide his identity and keep the Cybertronian cast of the movie from leaking early we just called him Sentinel Prime instead, lol.

If I had to guess I'd say it was an early concept for a "nanobot-Pretender" (as someone else dubbed it) for one of the Decepticon's collaborators before they settled on just going with plain ol' humans instead.

Perhaps meant as a way for them to continue the Pretender element from the second movie without COMPLETELY repeating themselves, visually speaking?

There WERE early rumors that Dylan would be a Pretender. Perhaps he was supposed to have been a human who was killed and replaced by a Pretender? They never DID show exactly how they take their form after scrapping the whole animatronic-Alice thing last time around, after all.

Or maybe some sort of "growing-out-of-the-ground-hologram" of a human, roughly similar to the way Optimus showed Sam & Carly what Megatron had done to Cybertron?

Not really sure beyond that...pretty interesting, though.

Hope we get the full story someday!
