Yes, another one of those threads about TF4, but shut up and hear me out.

I think the idea of having the next movie without humans might be cool, but I seriously doubt it would happen. The reason it would not happen is because people who are not into Transformers would most likely not even go see the movie if there was no human interactions with robots, drama, and of course a hot chick.

With that said, I also remember Shia saying in one of the interviews that he's not sure he would be returning to another TF movie (if there was one) because there was nothing he could do for the character of Sam. Of course, Shia is just an actor, he doesn't make decisions or write the story.

The way I think they could have him back in next TF movie is if he becomes a NEST soldier. In ROTF he didn't want to have anything to do with Autobots and Decepticons issues, however, in DOTM he's lost and doesn't know what else to be in life after college. Also, given that he has two Decepticon kills under his belt (Megatron and Starscream) well that gives him more bad-guy kills than some of the NEST soldiers. So, this opens a chance for a new chapter in his life where he becomes a NEST soldier and the story goes on with humans and Autobots hunting the remaining Decepticons on Earth. Shia is a great actor so he would be able to portray this new Sam.

In the meantime, a new bad guy emerges and he wants to bring more Cybertronians to Earth to make it their home, since Cybertron is gone. Of course, this means getting rid of humans and keeping the planet for themselves and gives the whole story a conflict to work with.

I think this would give writers a lot of flexibility to introduce some new characters, both Cybertronian and human. And just in case Rosie doesn't want to return to the next movie, they could write her off because she doesn't want Sam to be a soldier. I'm perfectly fine with her staying, but just throwing that out.

    Just pure speculation...

    What you guys think?

I think he'd be a lot more interesting as a character if they went that route. I want to CARE about Sam, but none of the movies have made me care about him at all.

That would be interesting, and probably the only logical route, but I doubt they'd do that. Cause really beyond the fact that the writers didn't want him to, there's no reason Sam shouldn't have enlisted once he was done with college.

Unless Bay and the writers actually want to change things up, if Sam returned he'd be like in DOTM. More spazzing out, lots of screaming, and people treating him like he's still a stupid kid despite him being in his mid 20s with a college degree. With his mother nagging him about all he should care about is pleasing Carly again.

Which is exactly what Shia meant, so hopefully he'll stick to his guns and not come back for yet more of the same.

Exactly. And I think this would give Sam opportunity to be more "involved" with the whole conflict, rather than just beign a messenger and screaming "Optimus!!", "Bumblebee!!", "Ironhide!!", etc - throughout movies

    There's that of course...
I just think that given his involvement in ROTF and DOTM, they could go with him finally becoming a soldier, rather than just getting another medal.

No matter how hard I try, I can only see Sam as the kind of guy who'd flunk out of boot camp.

Sam has never been a "yes sir" type of character.

From the start of the movie franchise he's been rebelling against his parents, rebelling against his girlfriend, and in Dark of the Moon, rebelling against the government. He's kind of run out of things to do - he's saved the world THREE times now, he's with a girl that wants him to succeed at doing what he wants to do as opposed to his ex which wanted him to want her as much as she thought he should.

I honestly foresee a possible "three teenage/young adult" actors/actresses in the next movie, kind of like you see in Transformers Prime, Transformers Armada, and Transformers Cybertron. Two angsty "going to fall in love" teens with a younger sibling. The two older actors get the action, drama, and love scenes, while the younger sibling gets the comedy.

You can't have Optimus Prime be the main focus in the next movie because you need to "rebuild" so to speak. So you have these three kids each have their own Transformer (akin to former series I mentioned earlier) and a "more mature" 4th Transformer to kind of act as their "mentor". Eventually push comes to shove, the new big baddie makes an entrance, and Optimus Prime enters to save the day while each actor and their Transformer has their own plotline throughout the movie.

    Example:

Bob (teen boy) is reluctant and overly cautious. Thinks this is all unsafe. Storyline has him coming out of his shell, falling for the teen girl, and eventually becoming a hero.

Sally (teen girl) is free-spirited, but not reckless. Has a crush on teen boy but afraid to admit it. Storyline has her speaking her mind instead of hiding her thoughts and feelings, admitting her feelings to teen boy during a moment of peril, and eventually overcoming her own fears and challenges.

Billy (younger brother of teen boy) is picked on for being nerdy and doesn't have many friends. No self-confidence. Storyline has him building self-confidence through the friendship he has with Transformer (new Bumblebee character) and is main comedy relief of the movie. Story for him ends with being the "cool kid" at school and eventually standing up for himself to the bullies.

Overall storyline? New big bad Transformer is coming to Earth with only one purpose - seek revenge for the destruction of Cybertron. Ahead of him are his lieutenants who are trying to find the remaining Autobots and figure out a way to force their hand (ie: kidnap human allies/friends). They eventually do just that and the big bad appears, causing the Transformers to showcase their badassness and for Optimus Prime to enter the movie with a climatic battle.

End of the movie? Optimus Prime is severely damaged, near-death, and only the AllSpark can save him. Someone with knowledge of the AllSpark appears (Sam cameo?) and mentions that there's still one piece of the AllSpark but getting it won't be easy ... it's in the hands of the humans that have aligned themselves with the Decepticons.

Sets up movie 2 perfectly as the three humans agree that Optimus Prime saved them and their world - now they want to return the favor.

    Just random late night thoughts.

In DOTM he was working at accuretta systems which was supposed to help him get a job at nasa or something since he was into technology. However its possible they could have contacts inside NEST and get him a job as a NEST soldier . Mean while introduce Jason statham or whoever as the new lead character or characters and have sam as a secondary character. Id love for sam as a nest soldier to be a consultant to optimus prime and the gang and have 3 kids like in transformers prime like suggested above. I think it could work .

I don't want Shia or Sam back. The character was bad and the actor was terrible.

A lot of people have liked this idea, but I disagree.
I just like him as the normal-ish hero. if you get what im saying.
And even with him remaining similair they could still improve and change
    the character a bit.

Since Shia doesn't want to come back for more films perhaps it's time to drop Sam for a new character.

We've kind of already done the big arch with Sam of boy and his car, boy goes off to college, and boy gets his first real job. Just not sure I'd be that excited about Sam's first child or Sam's mid-life crisis. Perhaps it's just time to let Sam go.

I think it is time to drop Sam if the current movie series must continue. Shia's right in saying the character has nowhere to go at this point. While I think DOTM made some positive changes to his character I've grown tired of him as our "human window" after three movies. Not sure if we still even need one at this point, but I don't think he needs to be forcibly put into the plot again, ala ROTF.

He whacked Dylan Gould and killed 2 decepticons. I think they could manage to write him in as a soldier if they wanted to.

Understood. Nothing wrong with Sam staying the same goofy guy.

I've watched a few interviews with Shia and in none of them he says that he "doesn't want to" come back for more films. He did mention on few ocasions that making these films was fun and would love to come back, but he's not sure there's a character for him in future. And of course he doesn't know, he's not the one making decissions or writting the script.

Personally, I could see Sam become some kind of mediator between the Autobots and other goverments, kind of like Spike in season 3. Carly could be happy because he's not out in the middle of the battle, he could still interact with the Transformers, and it would give them plenty of opportunities to introduce new humans who could fill in the sidekick to the Autobots role. I mentioned in another thread about introducing Marissa as a cop who, through circumstance, found herself drawn into the conflict. Would be easy to do something like that if they really tried.
