There is one instance of CGI-on-CGI intersecting in ROTF that sticks out like a sore thumb to me, and it's so severe that I'm really not sure how ILM missed it/allowed it to make final render.

When Optimus plunges his energon double edged axe into Megatron's face, Megatron pronounces the acronym: "ROTF!" ;-) Actually it sounds more like: "Run for it!"

In all seriousness, here is a hard to notice detail. After Optimus kills Megatron, and Sentinel, he straightens his posture, and this musical "hero's pose" moment happens.

    Pom-pom! Pom-pom!

Well in between those two "Pom-pom" hits is this quiet hiss-like fast whisper: "Sha-na-na-na-nah!" The first time I've noticed that I thought it sounded kinda demonic, and wondered, why Steve Jablonsky put it there. It just felt sort of creepy at first.

    Anyone else noticed it?

Yeah, sorry, when I said "there is no intersecting of CGI" in my previous post, I meant in the currently-discussed shot, not in a "there's none whatsoever in the entire trilogy nope nuh-uh never". :)

But what is your example? I've heard some people talk about certain examples, but they're always disproven (or at least the shots have been so shaky/quick/busy that you can't really tell one way or the other). Things like Devastator's knees, Megatron's chin and stuff.

Sorry, didn't mean to call you out, just saw the "ILM fanboy" tags and was reminded of...

Megatron on top of the pyramid in ROTF is what I was referring to. A head piece goes right through a shoulder piece. It's during a close up shot, there's no mistaking it's an error. The thing that gets me is, I was fairly certain that modeling programs have measures now to prevent that altogether (overlapping shapes)

Yeah, that's it! That's one of the ones that people keep mentioning. Can you find a screenshot of that shot (not necessarily the exact frame on which it apparently happens, just the shot in gneral so that I can look at the film myself later)? I remember looking for this mistake once since there's only a handful of close-up shots of Megs on the pyramid, but I could never find this allusive mistake. :lol  Maybe I'm just blind. I'm not trying to call you out, by the way, I'm honestly curious. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they do have something that prevents intersecting, but some things must accidentally slip through (HAR!) from time to time.

I was SO excited when I caught that at an IMAX screening and couldn't WAIT to run out of the theater after the movie was over to call it up and see what happened!

I thought for sure it was going to be a viral/ARG-marketing scheme or something like that, considering it's one of the very few times an honest-to-goodness phone number had been seen onscreen in a contemporary fictional film, be it ever so briefly.

Not exactly "fake," by the way...just disconnected. I'd LOVE to know the story there...yet another reason we need some commentary tracks someday, damnit.

But, yeah. Either way I still get a kick out having Sam Witwicky's cell phone number in my contacts!!!

    :D

    “Best post ever.”
    Thank you too, SPLIT LIP

“Actually, Sam yells Ironhide's name right before the Arcees die as well.”
I forgot about that one, thanks seekerblackout.

ROTF contains digs at James Cameron (whose film AVATAR ironically pawned it):
    - the Pretender Alice is a homage to THE TERMINATOR
    - the sinking carrier ship rips off TITANIC
    - the whole exploration of the Tomb of the Primes is a tribute to ALIEN , where comes across an abandoned alien habitat (though Ridley Scott directed the film, Cameron did the sequel)

Throughout DOTM most of Megatron’s scenes show him from his left profile, to highlight the hole in his head.

Sentinel Prime is obviously based on his G1 and ANIMATED version, but also incorporates designs of Alpha Trion and Vector Prime.

The f-word is cut off in all the films, but the s-word is given full rein:
    - the first film it’s used by Epps (“Man if you seen this sh!t!”), Sam (“OH SH!T!” on seeing Barricade) and of course Frenzy (he slices his own face)
    - the second film it’s used byMegatron (when Optimus cuts his hand off)
    - the third film it’s used by Wheelie (“Ah sh!t, I seen this one...”), Wang (pulls out his guns) and Epps (“Why do Decepticons always get the good sh!t?”)
I guess the s-word is more permissible, considering it was heard in TFTM.

The Wreckers bear a startling likeness to THOR’s Warriors Three: a fat bearded red one (Leadfoot, Volstagg), a green Anglicized one (Roadbuster, Fandral), and a blue silent one (Topspin, Hogun – though Hogun DOES talk).

I think most of those "digs" are unintentional and ambiguous at best. We've got a cyborg (humanoid endoskeleton covered in realistic human flesh and clothes that burn and melt and such) sent from the future. Then we have an alien robot from another planet with tendrils and claws whose very 'skin' transforms with it. Other than being a "bipedal robot trying to kill someone", she's not really like a Terminator.

Or the sinking ship could just be a reference to a ship that's been hit with several giant alien robots and is sinking. Just because it's a sinking boat doesn't mean it's hinting at Titanic. That's like saying that the car chase in Fast Five is a reference to the car chase in Jurassic Park because they both involve cars driving really fast to get somewhere. Now, if the captain of said ship had said "Not even God could sink this ship!", then that probably would've been a reference to the real-world event.

The Alien(s) one I can sort of get, but I believe it's more of a reference to HR Giger's cryptic art style in general, rather than a deliberate reference to Alien/Aliens.

EDIT: Now, carving "T-1000" into a random Decepticon protoform's arm and having said protoform get "killed like a b**ch" (and I quote Bay in the RotF commentary) in RotF, now that is a dig on the Terminator franchise; T-1000 is from Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day and also since McG's Terminator: Salvation came out in the same summer as RotF.

Pretty sure Megatron doesn't say "SH*T!" in RotF. But on all the rest, I concede, because they're quite obvious. :)

That's how ratings work. Culturally speaking, yes, "s**t" is more permissible than "f**k". Has nothing to do with it being in TT:TM.

:jawdropper:  Huh. I have never noticed that. That's actually pretty interesting. Probably not intentional, but interesting nonetheless. :lol

After slicing the Protoform in half, Optimus actually throws his sword into the second generic Brawl, it kills him, he pulls it out and then moves on to the Scrapper guy. Never noticed that until now.

Also, when Lennox starts talking to Prime in truck mode, Mirage not only turns his head, his wings angle up a bit, as if they were exiting a relaxed state.

Probably already posted, but I just noticed a couple of things in the Cybertronian opening:
    - The Ships that pursue the Ark are similar to the Ships piloted by the 'Cons in Chicago.
    - Inside the Ark, there are three Protoforms to be seen in the opening scene: One is firing the gun, the other is telling him where to aim, and the other seems to be using some sort of computer.

Useless things about the little 'Bots fighting amidst the giant Ravages [the level of detail on that scene is absurd]:
    - One of them does a roll on the ground before firing [like Ironhide on TF1].
    - One of them fall from the bridge to his death.
    - And yet another actually jumps from there, maybe he can fly?
    - One of them jumps on another soldier and punches the shit out of him with his bare fists. Epic little guy.
    - Two of them can be seen retreating from the giant ravage.
    - One of those two stops moving and stares at the ships flying above [while the other just keeps walking], maybe this one is Optimus? ["I watched the Ark as it left Cybertron" as he says].
    - As another one walks wounded, other makes a "Make a hole"-like move with his hand.
    - One of them lowers his hand to pick something from the ground [I can't see what it is].
    - When a piece of the bridge falls, one of them jumps backwards in reflex.
    - At the same time, one of them is gunned down by a Sniper.
    - Two Ravages are shot down by the 'Bots.
    - The last Ravage to be shot down accidentally knocks two 'bots from the bridge.
    - One of them cannot decide in what he's going to fire, and just keeps aiming at random stuff.

All I described? Happening at the same time, in five fucking seconds, Industrial Light and Magic is just badass.

As the pickup con is transforming, he fires off a stray shot that actually hits a human.

I got this from IMDB goofs

In the start of the movie when Sam is holding Brains, the small robot, looking for a box to put him in, a shot of Carly shows Sam in the background holding his arm out with nothing in it. In the next shot the robot reappears and Sam puts it in the box he has found.

I didn't know this, but apparently, the word "pissed" means "drunk" in the UK.

So when you UK fans heard Ironhide say that Optimus was pissed, did you think he was calling him drunk? :lol
