I don't think Transformers should be made in such way where it tries to be more than it really is. Ebert gave the first Transformers a positive review for the reason that it acknowledged its roots as a toy and instead of trying to be something it wasn't, used it as an asset. | yeah, I don't want all the fun sucked out of transformers for the sake of realism. I just want someone who can bring a different flavour to things and tell a compelling story. |

Bay just doesnt tell a good story or cant convey a decent one.
Just saw the Avatar trailer on TV while typing this and have to Say ya Bay doesnt hold a candle to those two and dear god please definately not Spielberg his movies have been more hilariously odd than good lately.

He may not write them, but he has the final say on every aspect, including story construction. You make it sound like he's just one of the tech guys performing one role. Quote:

B&R may sucked, but the franchise was far from dead when Nolan came along.

Michael Bay may not have raped my childhood, but I think he may have molested it. |

I think his Iron Man film had the kind of tone and feel (kind of '80s-ish) for Transformers that I was hoping to see. James Cameron would obviously have been another strong pick.
