If Bay didn't do them, which director would you have wanted to take on the TF movies?

I remember you posting a few months ago how the main reason you hate Bay is that he's egotistical. Fair enough. However, you WORSHIP Cameron despite the fact that his own self-image makes Bay look like he eats humble pie for breakfast lunch and dinner (many actors, such as Kate Winslet, have actually sworn off working with Cameron again for that exact reason).

He was able to pull off one of the biggest literary epics that already had an established fanbase. He would've been able to give us an excellent product with much less controversy. Obviously some would still not be happy, but I think it would have been a true masterpiece instead of just a cool popcorn flick.

Robots + aliens + war = James Cameron

If he stepped in, assassinated Michael Bay, and completely rebooted the franchise with new designs, I'd be all for it.

Jackson's way to into really epic sky shots. I don't want to see Optimus and Starscream fighting in the road from the top of a building. But he could do something really cool with Transformers I guess.

I vote for either Neill Blomkamp (District 9), J.J. Abrams, or Robert Zemeckis.

Neill did an amazing job for his first film, but at the same time I think we should see another from him before I make any final judgements.

Abrams is into the really nerdy stuff, so I think he would manage to stay true to the franchise while giving it the right twist it needs.

I'm really only voting Rob here because he's directed FOUR of my top ten favorite movies. But I really don't know if he would get Transformers right. Robert is more of a person that makes epic ONE person stories. He's good with side characters (Dr. Brown, Jenny, Roger Rabbit) but I'm just not sure he could pull Transformers off.

Overall I think I'd go with J.J. because he seems to have a talent for making unpopular nerdy stuff cool again. He's the guy that got people talking about giant monsters and Star Trek again after all.

The Wachowski Bros... I thought they did a decent job bringing Speed Racer to the big screen, although they might have overdone it with the colorful imagery that gave the old fart reviewers headaches. At least, they did stay true to the spirit of it being a cartoon.

But I don't know if they'd be a good fit with Transformers.

Here's an idea: every single director we've listed needs to make a Transformers movie, and we'll pick from the best :D

Jon Faverou, Iron Man was a fantastic film on every level that appealed equally to geeks and moviegoers and without any purile humour.
I'd love to see hsi vision of Transformers.

Peter Jackson, Cameron, Lucas, Spielberg are all out of the running, this isn't the type of film they'd do. I think Someone like Favreau would be a good choice, though I wouldn't have thought that untill after I saw Ironman. Others I'd like to see take on Transformers Alex Proyas or Bryan Singer

Actually, it seems like it would be right up Lucas's alley. He'd probably focus on the 'bots a lot more than the humans.

And why wouldn't Spielberg do them? He was interested enough to be their executive producer.
