Grimlock could come to Earth and scan a Metal T-rex. He would Stay in this form for a while and start reeking havoc on some town for some fun, When Optimus and the Autobots show up and beat him into submission. They then force him to get a new alt mode. Bam Dinosaur alt mode solved in movie verse.
His new alt mode could be based on a T-rex or somthing. Hrmm maybe like a T-rex based muscle car or somthing.
A plausable way for grimlock to have a T-rex dino mode is to have him crash near a monster truck show with a giant truck eating dinosaur robot. grimlock isn't bright and has only been on earth for a few minutes so he thinks this would be a great disguise. of coarse Bays version would be way more badass. I PMed this to Bob Orci a while ago, he replied saying he loved the idea.
Why don't they just make it so that Grimlock and the other Dinobots crash landed on Earth way before Megatron did on an exploratory mission and that's why they scanned Dinosaurs and got Dino alt forms.
Or they could take the TF Animated route and have Grimlock and friends be based off amusement park dinosaur animatronics. Wouldn't be that implausible, those aren't even organic.
I'd like it if the Dynobots answered Optimus Prime's call to Earth after hanging out on an alien planet populated by dinosaur-like creatures so they have those as alt modes. They arrive here and are too stubborn to take on new weaker Earth alts for disguise. It means they end up being confined to base and are grumpy and resentful after just coming from having an entire planet they could freely run around. There's friction between the Dynos and Optimus and the other Autobots and the humans over this. The Dynobots break out for a relaxing rampage and catch shit from all sides. When a big battle at the end which isn't going the way the good guys want means disguise isn't required and the Autobots need some heavy hitters, the Dynobots as-is are perfect for it. At which point Grimlock tells Optimus to kiss his skidplate.
Not for me, it just stupid. The dinobots should be dinosaurs in Robot mode and Vehicles in Altmode, you have bipedal robots enough.
Why not have Ratchet build Grimlock a robotic dinosaur mode? "Scanning a dinosaur" doesn't seem to fit into this canon very well, but since the TF have the ability to access information about our planet via the WWW, why not have Grimlock request a T-Rex-inspired robotic form, based on his fascination with that animal?
Or have them (similar to TF:A) crash into a museum, scan the closest mechanical structure available in panic, and proceed to stupidly rampage like a bull in a china shop as people freak out over the robot dinosaurs running amok. Or yet another allspark shard, if they decide they haven't beat that dead horse enough, animating something similar, which would explain the low intelligence. I do like that Truckasaurus idea as well, though.
and more importantly, movie arcee had literally nothing to do with 'old' arcee whatsoever. it was just a name slapped on a random robot to keep fanbois happy. look forwards to grimlock being reimagined as a digital watch that transforms into a digital alarmclock and - after being infused with the raw power of the next macguffin - a digital wallclock. triple changer, baby!
