This thread is useless without pics. We could finally put the nitpicking to rest. Just a view of the mountain from behind the museum would prove it to the haters. I haven't even been there so I will leave it to the folks that have access to the place to show us the mountains and boneyard. Why can't people believe the folks that live there?

It's rare to see someone so totally shut down with no means of defense except leaving. Nicely done!

I particularly liked the top of their floor plan says "HANGER" just to rub it in.

I don't have a picture of the horizon from the center's parking lot, but you can see this from google maps.

Even if you can't see it from the facility due to tree-lines, that whole area is 'hilly' as it is right near the base of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Here is a Wiki article on the PIEDMONT ridge that Dulles and northern virginia is in/on.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piedmont_(United_States)
Blue Ridge Mountains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I can see the blue-ridge mountains on the horizon from many parts of Fairfax County.

Oh look! A picture of Dulles Airport with the blue-ridge mountians!

And the Udvar-hazy center, from the layout of the floorplan, Jetfire is at the central part of the "T" of the two hangars (or not hangars) and he walked out the door on the right side of the airport. Which connects directly to Dulles Airport via a tarmac which is about a mile from some of Dulles's takeoff/landing tarmacs.

The only thing they could have done to make it 'MORE AUTHENTIC' is to put a billion pine trees up as that is all the area is covered with. But all they really wanted to do is have the exterior be 'an airport tarmac'.

I don't care about the difference, but dude, really? No, it wasn't like they were in the Caribbean and exited to a glacier, it was like they were in suburban Virginia and exited to a desert filled with the husks of old aircraft. An area which I'm certain is as uncommon on the Eastern Seaboard as say, a glacier in the Caribbean.

And yes, OWAT has a long and storied history of lying to make himself look cool here. Dude, c'mon. If he says he was involved with the construction, any rational, long-term poster here would believe him.

I do especially, because I was actually at said musuem just last week with him, and was terribly entertained by his recounting of stories from that period of his life. Of course, I should probably discount them all as just a crude attempt to sleep with me, and instead, believe you, a long-time resident...

...oh, wait. You're "just making claims on the internet also."

However! You're totally right about one thing...

...I'm just not so sure you're clear on who has the stick.

Also, who said anything about Bay? I mean, besides you?

I live in Tucson, Az where the boneyard is. Here is a pic facing North towards the mountains from the boneyard. The mountains are the northern border of the city.

Needless to say I was pretty shocked when they exited the Smithsonian into boneyard. But I was also pumped to see Tucson on the big screen.

Well that certainly looks like what was in the movie but we've got folks who live in the area. I was kind of looking for something like this from there.

The Udvar-Hazy center is a secondary facility of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. The main branch is located at the Mall in Washington DC. The U-H center has bigger display facilities than the Downtown branch, allowing the display of an SR-71 and a Space Shuttle. The U-H Center is right near Dulles Airport. Either way, when Jetfire breaks through the wall, he walks outside to Davis-Monthan AFB near Tucson, AZ. This is where AMARG, the US military's "aircraft boneyard" is located. It's an error in geography in the movie. Most people wouldn't notice, but residents of Virginia and Arizona, as well as airplane geeks should.

OF course, you could always say that Jetfire inadvertently opened a Spacebridge when he cracked through the wall of the museum, teleporting everyone to Arizona. Yeah. That's how I'm covering it.

I didn't really mind the sudden change of location. It is a movie, after all.
BUT, how come the other Autobots never reveal themselves to Jetfire? Bumblebee and the Twins remain in vehicle mode throughout that whole scene...

Wait, hold on, is someone trying to say that the did not mention in the movie *where* the "hanger" is located, despite pointing to it on a map and then referring to it by name?

I live in Western Australia, so I have no perception as to the problem, but I guess if somone were to film a person leaving the Opera House and walking a few feet to stand in front of Ayers Rock, then I'd be a bit confused and it would probably take me out of the movie.
If you are referencing real word places, it has to be kept as accurate as possible.

I love when people nitpick about how the air and space museum doesn't look like the real one in D.C., yet overlook the fact that there are fictional giant robots in the movie. C'mom people, it's fiction.

They do in fact say it's in Washington when looking at the map. When Simmons looks through his binoculars from the parking lot, it is without question the same building at the top of the link provided before. It's also shown in subsequent shots while their talking prior to entering.
National Air and Space Museum - Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Floorplan
They also are shown walking under a sign (in the space shuttle room) that says James S. McDonnell space hanger

When they're outside, they're standing on very dead grass. It's rather sandy, but it's definitely covered in dead/yellow grass. Mountains in the distance (a little). That's about it as far as visuals.

Sorry I can't post any screen caps.

And as you can see here, basically, they're both in DC. Yeah it's virginia, but it's really close (26 miles) when compared to pointing at a map of the whole US. http://www.nasm.si.edu/visit/directions/index.cfm
