Despite complexities, summer heroes still find time to save the world - Los Angeles Times

I understand the article was very much about the use of flawed heroes, but the author's non-acknowledgement of Optimus Prime's flawless depiction as a saviour figure, the hero that will protect us from the monsters, did seem to strike me as epitomizing a lot of ROTF's reviews to me. So many of them seemed to decry the increase of the characters we came to see, calling the movie an effects festival purely because of their screentime. IMO, Sam is the protagonist, not the hero in ROTF, and perhaps this view of him as such from critics unfamiliar with Transformers may have been a side effect from having the first film so human focused (and Sam being the one to kill Megatron).

This grows old. They wanted more robot focus in the first one, they got it in the second one. But yet they complain about the focus of humans now and Sam?!

Last time I checked the film is titled "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" not "Sam: Next Door Boy from the Burbs"

Yeah, I read that article. I thought it was too littered with the writer's Opinions on the movies selected as oppposed to a decent study on the Summer Movies and the "Heroes" in them (except Pine as Kirk, he/she just gushes over him).

We didn't get any more focus on the robots in ROtF, we just got tons more ROBOTS. In fact, as a consequence, we got LESS focus on the robots this time.

    robot are cool.

Robots are cool in anything that is all that needs to be said =). Critics like always are being to demanding, Michael Bay even said so himself he makes movies for the audiences

Yea I felt characters like Ratchet, Jolt, The 3 Bike sisters really needed more spotlight. Instead they do a shitload of fighting and there is hardly any character development. Bay said he was interested in a aircraft carrier, probably for more action than story so I hope they manage to flex out current characters before adding more like GRIMLOCK WANT STOrY TOO.

See, naming a human character as the true hero here is what bothers me in general about the movie.

Talk about expectating too much. Folks, its a Hollywood live-action film...its ALWAYS going to focus on the humans. If you just want the bots, watch the cartoons. ;)

Did they serously say they wanted more humans?

Serously, WTF is wrong with them.

WHen you to watch a Movie called Transformers, YOUR NOT WATHCING TO SEE THE GOD MANED HUMANS!

Anyways, really, its an article about the heros in Transformers, and they won't talk about Optimus? Really, this is an odd person..

Ya got me. I went to it to watch Prime. I could careless if Sam was a hippy loving bastard. I still wouldn't of cared. My focus wasn't on him really.

You're getting your left and rights confused. Hippy/Nazi would equal left + right which equals...I'm lost.

You guys are aware this is probably written by someone who isn't a "Fan" (per-se) of Transformers, at least not like those of us here on the Board and could be placed in the "General Audience" which the film also appeals to?.

I've yet to meet any non-Transformer fan that's seen either film that didn't think Prime and/or Bumblebee were the true 'heroes' or stars of the film. The only times the actors are mentioned by people I know are when they remark about how attractive they think Josh Duhamel, Megan Fox or Tyrese are (I know and work with a lot of women, and most of them have seen at least one of the films, if not both). The only time Shia Labeouf comes up is when people ask how the hell you pronounce his name.

He's probably a reviewer who doesn't have a clue that Transformers is about the robots. Of course he's focused on Sam.

This guy obviously has a hard-on for Sam. Maybe he came from a broken home and they couldn't afford Transformers figures. Every day he would walk past the shops and see Prime in all his Hasbro-wrapped glory on the shop shelves and not be able to do anything. Over time he became twisted and ultimately resented Prime for being so damn desirable. As a result his review failed to recognise Prime, let alone regard him as a hero.

In short, this guy is a soggy-biscuit-loving tool.

Uh, both films are Sam's stories. Did we watch the same movies?
