Who was Starscream talking about, Prime or The Fallen?

 

No one! This is Michael Bay it's not meant to make you think ... ABOUT ANYTHING!

I figured he was reffering to Megatron since Megs was just hiding and trying to tell him to retreat.

 

that's how i remember the quote, and i think he means himself. powerful words indeed, since he's saving meg's ass the way he(characteristically speaking) saves his: by being a coward.

i really like this quote, it touches me as one of the most memorable ones, and makes starscream starscream.  

 

That's not really what he said. It was more along the lines of "Not to call you a coward, but sometimes cowards survive..." It was basically a way of saying LET'S GET OUTTA HERE BEFORE THE AUTOBOTS MESS US UP. A very G1-esque retreat move.

 

Yeah, I thought he started it out with something like "not to call you a coward...".
Actually, there were several powerful (yet completely undeveloped) moments in the dialog of this movie; my person favorite being what Tyrese said about being created in God's image and then about Optimus "... who created him?".

 

it was more like "not to call you a coward lord megatron, but sometimes cowards live to fight another day" then they fly off

 

that one's a gem. one good moment in the movie that looked like it could lead to something bigger.

 

One of those memorable quotes in the movie, very moving.

 

He was talking about him and Megs. He was saying that it's okay to be a coward if you live to fight another day, then they booked.

Just watched the movie again and yup, he said something along "Not to call you a coward, Lord/Master(?) Megatron(Can't recall if he mentioned Meg's name?), but cowards survive/live another day.

 

They may be referred to as cowards, but wouldn't any of us retreat(let alone live) if we had only half of our face?

 

Bravely run away to fight another day.

 

Unfortunately, all the talk about the movie's pros and cons has relegated the voice acting to the back seat; and that's a shame because there were some masterful performances in this movie. Adler's delivery of this line was spot on! The way he said "but" was both a declarative and a back-handed insult. Brilliant.

 

Curious....I can't say anything about the voice acting as I havent seen/heard it for myself but I have to wonder, if there is debate on what /exactly/ Starscream said, just how clear was the dialog anyway????

I heard it very clearly, but some people have reported problems with the movie's general loudness in theaters. Loud movie + imperfect human memory + no home release yet = "well I think he said"... There are conversations like this about a lot of movies in general.

Yeah, very cool quote/situation. Obviously, Megatron holds a lot of resentment towards Starscream for having "failed him" in the past (per the first movie), and especially for having left him for dead in the first movie. It was a great way for Starscream to be able to point out to him that being the #2 man isn't as easy as he thinks, and there are some pretty difficult decisions he must face (i.e., sacrificing himself for the sake of his leader vs. doing what he thinks is best for all Decepticons by saving himself). It will be interesting to see if Megatron treats Starscream with more respect in the next movie after having experienced things from Starscream's perspective or will resent Starscream even more, feeling that Starscream has turned him into a coward by convincing him to leave in a moment of weakness.

So much for The Fallen being a totally useless character. If his only purpose were to flesh out this relationship between Starscream and Megatron, that's good enough for me.
